Don't get me wrong, this is great news overall. And I trust MCU wouldn't be stupid enough to do a deal that would give Sony complete control, no matter what the press release says. And hopefully Avi Arad got booted to the curb.

But the great thing about not having the rights to Spider-man, X-men, or even FF was that it force Marvel to develop its lesser properties. And it looked like we are finally getting that with BP and Captain Marvel in the works. But as soon as they get Spider-man back, now they get pushed back.

I personally would rather see someone and something new and different. like Black Panther or Captain Marvel. I, and am guessing the general audience as well, doesn't care to see ANOTHER origin story. ANOTHER fight with Green Goblin, even if the fans say he hasn't been faithfully realized before. ANOTHER third act where Spider-man has to save Gwen, or Mary Jane, or whoever else this time.

Anyone else feel this way?

I'm fine with it in a 'smile and nod your head' kinda way but i'm not over the moon about it. I've seen enough bad/meh spidey movies that i think that character needs to be shelved for a while. I much prefer the MCU to focus on the Captain Marvels/Black Panthers of the world and try to raise those characters profiles.

AT the end of the day, this is a business though and SPidey is pretty much a $700 mill + guararntee at the box office, so u cant pass that up.

I'm not excited at all, but it's for completely different reason.

The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2 are my favorite comic book films by far. I had very high hopes for the future of the franchise. And now it's all over just like that. I'm not the biggest fan of the MCU either so that doesn't help. Now, I just... I just don't care. I can't get excited about seeing a brand new story when it feels like we didn't even get to see an end to the last one. :csad:

Sony will definitely listen to Marvel. If they planned to do their own thing they wouldn't have needed Marvel to begin with. They realize they need help though since they aren't doing as well as they could, and Sony is in financial trouble.

We won't see another origin movie either, I'm quite sure of that. First of all because Spidey should be popping up in Civil War before his own movie, and secondly since Marvel isn't even doing origin stories for Strange and the other new heroes.

I am kind of with you.ASM1 was my favorate Spider-man film.

My favorate Comic book propeties are X-Men,Spidey,and Batman.I don't like idea of Spidey In avengers and let's be honest that's a big reason for this deal.Marvel wanted Spidey In avengers and sony wanted connection to avengers to help boost solo Spider-man films and for Disney to move MS films away from Spider-man films.

Spidey should be solo hero not as part of the avengers.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but with reservations:

-I agree about the danger that they'll focus on Avengers and Spidey too much because they're the "big guns" and that lesser-known properties will get the shaft as a result (oh boy if they ever get the X-Men and FF rights back as well). The fact that they've pushed back all of their Phase Three movies except for Doctor Strange and IW, including their first black and female-led movies, just do that they can make a SIXTH Spidey film, is not really doing anything to assuage those concerns. But I'm not panicking just yet.

-I also DO NOT want him on the Avengers. He's never really fit well in that role. Interacting with them is fine, but no official membership.

-I also would prefer that they go with an older/more stable Peter (I'm assuming that it'll be Peter, I don't think that Marvel have the stones to go with Miles right out of the gate). I'm not really interested in more HS/College aged Peter. Been there, done that.

You've got a lot of preconceived notions about where the direction of this "NEW MCU BASED SPIDER-MAN" will be going.

I'd like to think that Marvel's sole purpose in taking over Spider-man and intergrading him into the MCU was to correct Sony's mistakes, not to repeat them.

Where was it announced that BP & CM were cancelled?

Oh that's right, they weren't, we're still getting them, just a few months later.

My only regrets are that:

a) Marvel couldn't get rid of Sony altogether.

b) That the other 4 MCU films had to get pushed back.

c) Both A and B but with Fox and F4 as well.

Other than that I'm excited and happy the Spider-man franchise can finally get the love it deserves and can now reach it's true potential.

I'm probably not as excited as I should be. Mostly because the last three Spidey movies made me kinda indifferent to the character, because Black Panther is pushed back a couple of months and because I have a bad feeling about a possible inclusion of Spidey into a Avengers team roster.
I'm pretty sure they'll go the TIH route with the reboot, so another origin story is the least of my worries.

But has BP's role in Civil War now been reduced, because one can assume that probably is the most logical place for Spidey to show up before his own movie? Does the importance of establishing those franchises now mean a little less since Marvel can use Spider-man now?

This!

I just hope he's at least in college and not high school again. And no more CW/Emo crap. More Spider-man less Parker problems.

That's kinda where Im at.
If Spidey wasnt going to appear for a while I'd be fine

Guardians proved that the audience doesn't need an entire film dedicated to the traditional origin story ala Spider-Man or The Amazing Spider-Man.

The only thing I'm not excited about is the fact that we're getting yet ANOTHER Peter Parker story. He's had five now, can we get something new for a change? I'd be over the moon if we got Miles Morales instead.

I'm in the camp that kinda liked the Garfield Spider-Man movies and I'm fine with them rebooting. I think it's mainly because that Sinister Six movie sounds like a terrible idea to me and even though they're supposedly still doing it, I can just avoid it.

I'm kinda meh about it. Not crazy about the ASM movies and the second I found terrible. I was hoping that they wouldn't have him in the MCU.

You make very good points, and they are certainly concerns that many share. We should keep these concerns in mind as we go forward and hope that Marvel Studios uses Spider-Man wisely.

At the same time, however, I can't help but comment on how amusing it is to observe how many fanboys who for ages clamored for the return of Spider-Man to Marvel now suddenly are feeling a case of buyer's remorse.

These fanboys should have been aware of the potential drawbacks of incorporating Spider-Man into the MCU, and they should have thought through these issues before they made their demands. But instead, they shouted their demands for Spidey's return louder and louder, and ever more stridently and intransigently, on every message board and forum. Now they finally have their wish, and now all of a sudden, they now start complaining about it and its accompanying consequences.

Now they voice their outrage over the altered dates of other MCU releases, and they worry how Spidey will fit into the overall universe. Well, shouldn't they have considered these potential downsides before demanding Spidey's incorporation into the MCU? They should have realized that there are downsides for everything.

But they now have their wish. And they're still dissatisfied? Too bad. As the old saying goes: You have made your bed. Now sleep in it.

I said it for years, Marvel doesn't necessarily need Spidey. FF on the other hand....

I'm willing to bet money that Miles Morales and Jessica Drew will end up as reoccurring characters on Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. within two years.

I'd have much preferred the ASM series continue than a second reboot

Feel exactly the same. I couldn't care less about him interacting with other heroes

I just don't want another ****ing origin story. I'm so sick of seeing stuff about Petes origin.

I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it is. If Spidey never showed up, I wouldn't really care. His absence allows more room for other characters.

However, after a bad Spider-Man 3 and then a reboot series that I really don't like at all, I have virtually no interest in Spider-Man anymore. I waited for the DVD of Amazing 2, and disliked it enough to where I probably wouldn't even watch the DVD of Amazing 3 or Sinister Six. By adding Spidey to the MCU, I now care more about that character and am guaranteed to watch his movies in the theater.

I'm sort of indifferent to it really. My interest in Spider man ended with SM3; similar to how my interest with X-men ended with Origins Wolverine (until First Class came along). The reception to ASM1/ASM2 didn't convince me to get back into the franchise. However If Marvel can inject some life into the character like Fox has done recently with X-men, then I'll gladly see the next film.

Until then, I just hope Cap won't be overshadowed in CW. He's the main reason I watch MCU .
