I've been reading and watching as many interviews with Downey as I can get my hands on, and he seems to have changed since the openeing of the movie.
Downey has always been quick-witted, and kind of self-effacing in his interviews, but in the ones I have read/seen for this movie, he seems snarky, petulant, and demanding that the interview focus on him and the movie itself.
Have I misread him in the past, or am I misreading him now?
What gives?

I'm guessing that Robert Downey Jr. is just as witty and charming as Tony Stark which is why he's being praised by the critics.

Are there any links to some of the interviews?

I don't have the links, but CBR had one, there's one on the Iron Man Hype of SHH of course, I thought I read one on AICN, but i just looked and couldn't find it.
I think Vanity Fair, of all things had the one that struck me the most.
If I find any of the links, I'll post them.

Very interesting.

Wesley Snipes was doing the same thing when he was playing the character Blade.
If you ever notice alot of the good actors always taken on the character until they do next movie.

some kind of sychosis. ( I know I spelled that wrong. )

Yeah, but Downey had already completed "Tropical Thunder" and "The Soloist" before he started doing press tours for Iron Man. I can understand it, I guess, but I hope he hasn't just becoming a jerk or anything.

he did some interviews for an aussie show a few weeks ago and he was very articulate. he gave the odd smart arse remark, but he did it in a playful way. the interviewer asked him where "the talent comes from" while acknowledging the absurdity of the question and he gave a very long detailed explanation. he didn't seem like he was eyeing the exit at all.

I read the interview with him on the SHH! main page and it definately seemed that way to me. I think it's funny. He obviously loves this character a lot!

Some actors tend to stay "in character" for the publicity after the movie's are released. IIRC Bale did it with Begins.

I've definitely heard Downey acting like Stark in an interview before. MTV did an online interview early in production for their website with RDJ and Favreau. The poor reporter had no clue what was happening. :D

i don't think he was in character as much as he just had the american accent still on. IIRC he said it was because of the weirdness of bruce wayne with a british accent

anybody catch him on Leno tonight? He was hilarious.

I saw the Leno interview and thought it was one of his best Iron Man interviews yet. I think he comes off much better in video interviews than in written ones, because a lot of his "cocky" remarks are dripping with self-deprecating irony, and that just doesn't come across in print.

I saw him on Kimmel tonight and he was charming as hell on it.

It;s because Downey Jr basically is Tony Stark. I love the guy, but Stark wasn't exactly a role that tested his acting ability.

Hahahaha, I wonder why?

no! You think it's on Youtube? I didn't he was on it, otherwise I would have seen it. Kimmel too? Oh man, i need to start looking at my TV Guide!

RDJ has always been that kind of witty guy. its good that hes getting major exposure to a wider audience with iron man. hes awesome.

kimmel is probably the worst interviewer ive ever seen. with carson daly right behind him. not only with RDJ, but with everyone else. hes horrible.

Uh he's always been witty. You are just noticing it more now because you are familiar with him as IM.

Well, I for one think it's a great thing that Robert Downey Jr. is happy after all the hell he put himself through in the past. Ironman's success is just the icing on the cake. It's wonderful such a great, funny, dedicated actor such as himself has gotten a second chance after screwing up so much in his younger years.
