Comic books of The Spirit are currently being published by DC Comics, even though there is another company who republishes old comics as well. And today (4-14-08), DC's July '08 solicits revealed that DC themselves will be doing a deluxe figure of the movie version of The Spirit.

So is this movie version of The Spirit a DC Comics movie?

Given that Mr. Miller isn't using anything in the current Dwayne Cook post-Infinite Crisis continuity, I'd say no.

its still owned by DC so i would say yes

I thought The Spirit was owned by DC, as well. And since they are releasing a figure based on the movie portrayal, I'd say it's surely a DC-sanctioned movie.

Not really. Warner Bros. don't own the film rights to The Spirit, so it's not really a DC Comics / Warner Bros. movie.

yes it is, its a lionsgate movie but its still owned by WB and it is a DC movie

Technically speaking it would be a DC movie due to the character content but its a Lionsgate movie in Hollywood world. I bet it will have the DC logo in the opening.

No, Warner Bros. doesn't own the motion picture rights to the movie.

True but they own DC who in turn owns the character.

liongates owns the movie rights but doesnt WB own liongates now?

anyways, its DC regardless of whether its owned by WB or not

liongates owns the movie rights but doesnt WB own liongates now?

No, they own New Line Cinema.

Anyway, I don't see it as a DC Comics movie. First of fall, The Spirit is not really a DC character - at least he wasn't "born" as one. DC bought the rights in the mid-2000's to reprint the old stories and produce a new series. Warner Bros. and DC are not involved with the movie, so I'd say no, it's not really a DC Comics movie. But it doesn't really matter, does it?
