Is It Ever Acceptable for a Man to Hit a Woman?

I had a discussion about this at work today. It was a very interesting conversation to say the least. I'd like to know the opinions of you all. There is no neutral response to this question. There is no "a human being should never hit another human being." That's a cop out. It's either a "yes" or a "no." Insert any hypothetical scenario. Use your imagination.

Is it ever acceptable for a man to hit a woman?

Yes.

In self-defense. If a woman is attacking a man with a knife or by any means that might actually hurt him, he has the right to hit her to get her to stop attacking him.

It would also be acceptable if he did it to protect someone else, like his children or something.

I believe that if a woman uses physical violence against anyone, that person has the right to defend themselves in a physical nature as well.

No woman has the right to hit a guy just because she is a woman.

There we go. If someone is trying to hurt you I believe you have every right to defend yourself an acceptable amount no matter the gender, age, ect. of the attacker.

Many years ago, my dad's friend (female) told me "A man should never hit a woman. But if a woman ever decides to hit a man, she makes it known that she wants to be treated like a man."

I think it comes down to the 'Is It Ever Acceptable for a Man to Hit a Woman for something she says?' (taking into consideration you were the type of person who would hit a man for saying something or for being very disrespectful)

It's just like any other fight. It depends on the circumstances and it never matters who is male or female in those. If someone is hitting you, you should have the right to hit back.

A woman shouldn't feel she has the right to physically abuse a man because he would be considered misogynistic to hit back.

Is it ever acceptable? Well, yeah. There are so many variables and hypothetical scenarios. We could sit and debate what actually constitutes self-defense.

If a woman slaps the crap out of a man, and pulls her hand back to slap again, is he justified in slapping her in the face? It's self-defense. But the woman is half his size and he's muscular.

no, it's not acceptable. i abhor physical violence. in a life or death situation, i'd hit the woman to spare my life. but, in that case, my actions would just be less unacceptable than the woman's; assuming that she's the aggressor and that i've at least attempted an alternative to violence.

It's acceptable for a man to hit a woman in self-defense for the same reason it's acceptable for any human to hit another human in self-defence.

In terms of daily routinely life, it's never acceptable to hit anyone, regardless of race/gender/sexual orientation.

That's comic book logic though. In the world of comics, any character can be redeemed from anything they do. Unless your name is Hank Pym .
