Is Lex luthor a psychotic in this film? It seems that way from some of the lines in the trailer. If so that is a big mistake. Lex is supposed to be a calm, cool, in control sociopath, (like he was in STAS) not some raving maniac.

He's psychotic like hackman. but that's ok with me...

Hackman didn't give me the impression that he was crazy. Maybe cartoony wig-wearing flashy clothes wearing crazy, but not "lock me up in a nuthouse" crazy.

You proabably won't see any influence from the Animated Series in this film, along with no influence from Birthright, Red Son, Man of Steel, The Last Adventures of Superman, Kingdom Come, etc etc!!!!

Well, I guess you never saw STAS, because that Luthor can run circles around Hackman's Luthor anyday.

In the trailers they've probably used some of the more eccentric lines fromt he film (i.e., "billions", "wrong"). He won't be like that throughout. He also won't at all be portrayed as campy like Hackman. Hackman wasn't pyschotic.

that i can agree on.

ah ha, yes but that's otis' doing. Don't let his stupid brush off on hackman's performance too much. I swear, remove otis and Hackman looks like he plays it like a psychotic but cool character. "By causing the deaths of innocent people." That just sent shivers down my long arm.

He's psychotic in the comics too.

No he's not, he's a sociopath, which means he has no sense of guilt, but he's not legally insane, he is calm and in control.

With Hackman, he just didn't have any authority. He had an evil plan. BUt then again, he hung out with Otis, lived in a subway hideout, wore wigs, and had that "Look at me, I'm smart but I'm surrounded by idiots" metality.

Ive seen it an love it, but he's not that different from hackman. he just lacks an otis jar jar type of character to get in the way and bumble around for the kids to giggle at.

Both have hot tempers. Both have smooth demeanor and huge egos. theyre a lot more alike than many think, I wager.

What about when Col. Tavington ordered Capt. Wilkins to burn the church down in The Patriot. Or shot Benjamin Martins son. How about when Commodus told Maximus in Gladiator that his son screamed like a girl and his wife begged like a ****e for her life. Or anything involving Amon Goeth. Did that send shivers down your spine. Because it did mine. But Hackmans Lex didn't do that for me personally!!!!

STAS Lex was more complex, Hackman Lex would say stuff like "I am Lex Luthor, the greatest criminal genius ever", that makes him sound like Dick Dastardly. STAS Lex gave the impression that he wasn't a generic super villain, that he believed he was morally justififed to do what he did.

yeah but how about when Lex Luthor slowly pushed a man to his death in a subway from the comfort of his computer console.

He still came off like Dick Dastardly, not like STAS was calm and cool even ordering the death of one his employees or something.

Hands down Luthors finest moment in the movie......should have done more of that!!!

As a kid, I hated that 'missle reprograming' scenes. It's so far fetch...to my liking.

heh both have female sidekicks.
both claim to be geniuses (Lex says he's over qualified when that time travel dude tells him that only someone with a super duper intellect can handle the anti matter equation in JLU. if I recall.) so I guess they're both dick dastardly?

That's fine with me.

Yeah they both do what they do for selfish, self satisfying reasons based on their own morality... agreed.

The biggest difference is that one wore wigs and hid underground and the other didn't and was more open to the public.

but one's a public figure who can manipulate the public with a push of a button, while the other one was an evil real estate agent who reminded me of "Brain" of Pinky and the Brain....

Meh, both crimminals. Control the economy through land ownership, manipulate the public. It's all the same game.

STAS Lex never called himself a criminal, he didn't think he was evil, Hackman Lex acted like a generic villain, seemingly releving in his own evil, which is why STAS Lex is better, he didn't off come as a Dick Datardly type who steals candy from babies and is just evil for evil's sake, while Hackman Lex did come as that. Seriously Hackman Lex comes off as being as "deep" a villain as Super Friends Lex.

why would they ignore Hackman's portrayal if this is supposed to be a sequel to the second film?
