The Avengers Is Mark Ruffalo the Right Choice for the Hulk?

As a fan of Edward Norton, I'm bummed out that he's not going to reprise the role for the Avengers, but Ruffalo should do a decent enough job. It's just going to be weird for some fans to see the third Bruce Banner in 8 years.

The weirdest thing is tha tnone of these actors mirror each other so it's very noticealbe we are getting a different Banner.

Robert Downy Jr approves of Ruffalo, so I say all is good. Close the thread now :)

IMO I think they could have found a better choice but it is what it is.

This. Ruffalo is a good actor and I liked Norton, but at least they chose someone competent to replace him

It's weird they always do that with recasting.

people got to get over it... he's just an actor, not the character. People did the same **** when Heath Ledger was cast as the joker and complaining how no one could replace Jack Nicholson and blah blah blah... and now they are saying the same thing about Heath as the Joker. Nicholson and Heath are actors playing a character... the same as Terrence Howard and Don Cheadle are playing a character in Iron Man... and the same as Ed Norton, Eric Bana, and Mark Ruffalo are actors playing a role... they are not the role itself. Actors get recast all the time. It's the nature of the business. period.

I don't really give a s**t. The less Banner the better I say.

ED NOTON dammit, he's the perfect BANNER!

Still more importantly we need HANK & JAN!

Iron Man and Norton Hulk were the best things that ever happened to Marvel; and now, no Norton. And everything has to be rebooted because Nolan decided to do it first; this sucks. BRING NORTON BACK!!!!! :waa:

Yeah, the more I see Ruffalo in movies, the less I buy him as Banner. He's not a bad actor, but it's just not a smooth transition from Norton to Ruffalo. Eric Bana to Ed Norton was believable (for those who didn't realize, and still don't realize, that it was a reboot), but I guess until I see the finished product, I just don't see the decision-making behind this casting.

The Jack and Heath thing is not a comparable situation at all, that was two different series of films seperated by 20 years. This is a single continuity, seperated by only a couple of years.

Actually it is the same. Just as it was the same as switching from Katie Holmes to Maggie Gyllenhall for the role of Rachel which was separated by a couple of years. Actors do not equal the role. That's the point. Continuity and the time span between films is irrelevant... Look at all the actors that played James Bond.

What I think is funny is when the Hulk series is made, it will be the fourth actor to play the character in less than 10 years, because none of the previous three will play the role.

another more important question is do we rely need another hulk?
is the hulk necessary at all?

yet it would be no big deal at all if Someone other then Peter Mayhew were to play Chewbacca

While I think Norton did a great job...and I have no idea as to why he was canned, Ruffalo (despite looking nothing like Banner) should (by all accounts) do a fine job as The Hulk.

Who is the fourth actor to play the character?

I only count 3: Eric Bana and Ed Norton... and now Mark Ruffalo.

"When the series is made". The fourth would be the person that plays him in the series.

I really like Ruffalo and think he will make a great Banner. He reminds me more of Bixby in demeanor than anyone to play him since. He harkens back to that Banner imo.

My only problem is the continuity. It annoys the hell out of me when they change an actor in a major role. I like Cheadle too but wish they would just pick someone and stick with them.

I would have been happy with Norton or Ruffalo originally. I just with they would have cast one the first time and kept him. Thats what annoys me.

The fact that they so readily keep changing actors just shows that Marvel and co don't really care about the Banner aspect of the character; they only care about the Hulk himself...................if that. :down

I don't think he'll do a bad job, but I do not like him for Banner.

to a bunch of fans, potentially yes.

I've got nothing against Ruffalo , it's not like we have a choice really but I'd rather deal with a recast than forfeit the character. However I still am going feel letdown
Norton isn't involved . I'm still not sure whether the fallout is over financial issues or creative rights but most likely the latter.
