Is Membership Down?

No adblock on the phone. A lot of the adds have spyware in it too on here.

Listen, I like kids. But this is not a kid's environment, this is like HBO. No limits. Who knows what I'm going to say? Crazy stuff. And it is R-rated. It is not rated G. I am like Eddie Murphy in Raw, and they are trying to make me into Eddie Murphy in Daddy Day Care. Both great movies, but still.
Pretty much how I look at the current state of the Hype.

We had a colorful cast of characters back in the day. We had even more colorful thread topics. And I'm only an 8 year man. Holy s***, 8 years.

I just thought it was me getting old jaded and dying, but apparently Warhammer thinks the same way about the current status of the Hype.

I guess this thread inspired me to get back on. I have been lurking since...well?...forever. Since my last post years ago.

Yeah, membership, I would say is down here. You can tell because you see almost all the exact same posters posting. The reason why forums are slowly dying is because of the rise of Social Networks. I started Social Networking with you guys back in the day when it was not openly admitted that you had friends over the internet because "only nerds have friends online." Now today, everyone and their mom has an account somewhere online and if you admit you DON'T have something online you are now weird.

Things have changed. Sites like Facebook and Twitter have made a once considered dream of talking and building a relationship with your favorite celebrity a reality now. Almost all the celebrities I know are now all online and you can interact with them. Back then during my young days(YES I'M OLD NOW!!) talking to a celebrity was a once in a lifetime encounter. Now you can do it on a regular schedule.

Not just that but anonymous simple image boards like the Chans and Reddit are now very popular. So SHH has been overshadowed with giants like Social Networks, Tubes, Image Boards, etc.

Wow, it's been over 10 years.

as for over 100k members, i don't remember that? not saying it's not true

but like some have said, there's bots and after the big purge years back, some usernames were freed up and new members signed up with them so there's that too?

scary right? i'm still a member though

I think it is time for me to come back. Just without the Bison pictures. A fresh start.

welcome back to the fray. i will miss the bisons though, nothing like that around anymore these days

I don't think braincrusher is banned, but I don't think he's coming back either. :csad:

Bans i guess, even with the MCU it's weird how there's not that much activity, and people get banned, some newbies even get banned without the use of the rule of 10 infractions

I've heard strange whispering of these names. What is the story behind Mr Parker and BakerBoy?
Back when this place was first created, it was Spider-Man Hype!, a site solely focused on the development of Spider-Man 1. As you can imagine, this place was fairly hectic back then; so many comic fans, and so little comic movies. The first Spider-man was an amazingly huge deal (no pun intended). Parker and Bakerboy were some of the original posters there, and they had....very particular beliefs of what Spider-Man and his fans should be. They also had an extremely volatile way of expressing those beliefs.

Parker/Baker Boy can be summed up in one thread: "ORGANICS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!" This thread was hundreds of pages long by the end. People were arguing and arguing; drawing up diagrams of how organic webs could work, damning each other for liking/disliking the idea, etc...Many people saw their Hype lives begin and end there. Parker and Baker Boys hate even spewed over in the private messages, where they would harass posters they argued with in the threads, as if they were violently trying to "convert" them and save them from their own "stupidity".

The irony of these characters was that for the countless hours spent here, the millions of words they typed, both claimed to refuse to see the movie. I think both were eventually banned.

But yeah, it was a pretty epic time; the wild west of Shh!

2008ish...kinda was like the end of the Wild West and the beginning of everyone has a right to post and not be ridiculed. :down
