Is Membership Down?

I also forgot about those posts talking about old names being freed up. I thought it would be a handful, not over a third.

Seem like I remember a time when membership was way over 150,000??? What has happen?

Several things, the biggest being a purge of names that had been inactive for years (this is why every now and then a newbie shows up with a name that everyone thought should have already been taken...because it was, but wasn't used, so was deleted and now is available).

I just thought it was me getting old jaded and dying, but apparently Warhammer thinks the same way about the current status of the Hype.

Yes, sadly. You're not alone.

Watch your potty mouth boy.

:oldrazz:

Hey now!

:o

I wonder if anyone remembers me.

Whoa, welcome back.

The next thing you know, Deemar will come back. Or ShadowBoxing will make a new user name. Or Kritish. Wilhelm.

2008ish...kinda was like the end of the Wild West and the beginning of everyone has a right to post and not be ridiculed. :down

This is true.

Back when this place was first created, it was Spider-Man Hype!, a site solely focused on the development of Spider-Man 1. As you can imagine, this place was fairly hectic back then; so many comic fans, and so little comic movies. The first Spider-man was an amazingly huge deal (no pun intended). Parker and Bakerboy were some of the original posters there, and they had....very particular beliefs of what Spider-Man and his fans should be. They also had an extremely volatile way of expressing those beliefs.

Parker/Baker Boy can be summed up in one thread: "ORGANICS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!" This thread was hundreds of pages long by the end. People were arguing and arguing; drawing up diagrams of how organic webs could work, damning each other for liking/disliking the idea, etc...Many people saw their Hype lives begin and end there. Parker and Baker Boys hate even spewed over in the private messages, where they would harass posters they argued with in the threads, as if they were violently trying to "convert" them and save them from their own "stupidity".

The irony of these characters was that for the countless hours spent here, the millions of words they typed, both claimed to refuse to see the movie. I think both were eventually banned.

But yeah, it was a pretty epic time; the wild west of Shh!

If only I had a time machine!
