Sometimes, not all, there's always gonna be that one woman who thinks she can beat anyone's ass and try to start something with a guy to prove it; kinda like how a guy does it. And if by chance she beats him, and he hits her back, I think she deserved it.

But yeah it is wrong to hit a woman, but what if she's trying to kill you and you have no choice but to take her out?

I've said it before; I would never hit a woman but if she hurt my mom then it's on.

to be fair, i really do enjoy films where they don't play safe and have good male heroes hitting bad females, especially a punch in the face.

I honestly believe hitting anyone for any reason other than self defense is wrong, male or female. If you're honestly on the verge of getting seriously injured or killed by another person, regardless of it being a dude or a female, defend yourself.

I agree with you. I'm not saying your wrong at all, and I absolutely agree with you that people react differently. Like lets say a woman is beating you, you might not swing or anything but naturally you might get a little defensive. I'm just saying if a situation like that happens, and a guy hits back I won't necessarily feel sorry for either one of them. Saying it's human nature to react hostile was a poor choice of words on my part. I should have use the word defensive.

Well the reason why there is stigma behind hitting women is because the average woman is physically smaller than the average man, so to hit a woman just as you would hit a man is inappropriate. In a situation where you have to defend yourself against a woman, simply restraining her is all you need to do most of the time.

Of course, this is your average 5'6 130lbs woman and 5'10 170lbs man I'm talking about here.

If you're 6'2, all it means is that its even less likely that you will encounter a woman that is that much of a threat to you.

This is the dilemma here. A woman who is 5'5 and 130lbs isn't hard to come across. Yet you will still be criticised if you hit her if she attacked you.

Where I'm from some girls are nastier than the blokes. I've seen pissed up woman fighting outside clubs, smashing people on the head with their heels, glassing people, some of them are real animals. But I wouldn't hit one of em.

Not that it should, anyway. Is it something that really needs to be argued, anyway? There's a difference between hitting a woman and self defense. The latter is acceptable because it's necessary for your life. Other than that, yes, it's pretty much wrong. I'd say it's pretty much obvious.
