Aside from the good online rpg it seems that the PC game culture is riddled with Tycoon games and games that aren't good enougth to become consule titles. Of course I'm probably going to get some backlash from this thread. But I'd like to hear someone list a good PC game that wasn't an online game since half life.

I give you that you have a lot of crap on the PC, but you have many great games too.

Warcraft series
Starcraft
Diablo series
Baldur´s Gate series
Icewind Dale series
Tons and tons of amazing RTS (which are better played with mouse and keyboard, IMO)
Tons and tons of amazing FPS (which are better played with mouse and keyboard, IMO)
The upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Crysis
PC lacks platforms, fighting and racing games.
All other genres have a place on the PC, besides, with the upcoming Vista and DirectX 10, PC gaming will return big time.

The thing is, everyone has a PC, not everyone has a console or wants to.
That alone will make that PC gaming will never die.
And one important thing that many seem forget, the PC is, in no way, worst than any console, if anything, it´s better, and i mean technically.
With time, it becomes better in graphics, sound, playability, frame rate...
Not bashing consoles, not even for a second, but a PC get upgrades, consoles don´t.

Every main blizzard game is doing amazingly well.

Combined theres about 11million users.

For RTS games, of course a mouse and keyboard is better.

For FPS games, I've seen no difference between using a mouse and keyboard or a controller.

And with the games out right now, none of them look as good as Gears of War. Will that change with time? Of course.

There's still more tycoon games than anything else.

With consoles, you have an easier time finding older games.

IMO, it´s the other way around.
I can´t find PS1 games, for example.
Or even in the PS2, i´m till trying to find the two Maximo, Baldur´s Gate: Dark Aliance II and Champions of Norrath.

On the PC, i can find tons of old games easily.

I can find PS1 games at Gamestop in my town. I can also find plenty of PS2 games and Xbox games. If some of them come with the cover and manual is another thing.

However, when I go into Walmart, Target, Best Buy, or Circuit City, aside from the current games, the oldest game I can find is the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 3.

Last year, the oldest PC games in Gamestop were Deus Ex: Invisible War, Septerra Core and Thief: Deadly Shadows.

I can only speak for what's in Memphis right now. Your town might have a game store that specializes in old PC games.

Republic Commando. Best Online Game ever.

My computer is too fast to play System Shock 1 and 2 :csad:

I´m from Portugal

Cool.

If I could find a store in town that sold old PC games, and had a copy of Thief Gold, Thief 2: The Metal Age, Planescape: Torment, Grim Fandango, and maybe Anachronox (I'm still iffy on it), my PC gaming needs will be complete.

I am just really getting into my pc gaming, I would never really play any games on there except Broken Sword series and Monkey Island series. Now I am looking to get into it a lot more. Dark Messiah, and I really want to try World of Warcraft, just not sure if I will get enough time to play it.

are there any good original PC games besides FPS and strategy games? It seems as if thats what the bulk of them are and Im not a huge fan of either genre

My PC just can't handle the top games. I would upgrade, except all good PC titles come to the XBOX 360. Hellgate:London will, Spore is, Dragon Age is, S.T.A.L.K.E.R most likely will, and I'm still betting Crysis will.

what about city of heroes and city of villians:ninja:

I actually quit console games for PC games.........

Hellgate: London WILL NOT going to the 360.
Spore IS NOT on the 360
Dragon Age IS NOT going to the 360
Where have you heard that??

As for S.T.A.L.K.E.R...i dunno, never heard anything in those terms, and Crysis, Crytek said that will not going to because no console can handle it.

Speaking at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, explained that next-generation consoles don’t offer enough computational power to run Crysis, German publication Heise reported.

Although Crysis will support both current and the next version of DirectX, Crytek claims that only DirectX 10 allows the game to run as it was intended by the developers because the next-generation DirectX API, which will ship along with Windows Vista, allows more effects and more objects to be drawn on the screen with a smaller computational cost for the hardware.

Diemer explained that “next generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 do not offer the sufficient power” to assure the quality of gameplay Crytek demand for Crysis.

Crytek reiterated at GC 06 that currently, Crysis in only in development for Windows. We (TeamXbox)haven’t lost hope that we’ll eventually see an Xbox 360 version of this first-person shooter.
