After a dissection between Kritish and JAL last night I thought I'd make this thread. I think I know how it'll go down but let's just confirm it.

Is Piracy right?

My view on the matter can be summed up like so. Piracy is an unlawful act - it is against the law. You may not like how the law stands but if you engage in piracy you are breaking the law.

I repeat - like their policies or not - it is against the law - therefore WRONG.

There is no grey area.

Um, of course it's not right.

No its not right but that's not gonna stop people from doing it *cough*like me*cough*

For future readers of this thread who may ask:

I'm almost certain the piracy Kahoot is referring to in this poll is not the kind that involves machine guns, speed boats, and stolen cargo. It's the kind that involves peer to peer programs and copyright rip-offs.

Both are wrong.

No it isn't right. Even if it sucks, there was hard work put into a movie, music, video game, etc. If you want to play it so bad and there is a legitimate way to get it, that's the way it should go.

No but that ain´t gonna stop me

That's what I thought but there is a similar thread at CS that surprised me... some started to fight for why it is right.

lol! Call them idiots for me. There's nothing right about stealing people's work.

I'd much rather download an album instead of going to a website specializing in video game soundtracks and anime soundtracks, spend $40 bucks a pop on a single album, and wait 2-4 weeks for it to be mailed from Japan.

I thought for sure the movie fans would be dead set against it and that over here they might lean to it being ok. Fight the faceless corporations and all that jazz.

Piracy is wrong

...but America has better things to worry about than somebody downloading one or two thousand songs.

:trans:

Or the people that make it available in the first place

I think we call agree on the fact that it is bad.

but we still do it anyways.

go limewire!

It's not right, but the penalties are ridiculous

Piracy is good, i saw pirates of the caribean i liked it.

couldent resist.

While I agree that piracy is wrong, and the general consent that stealing people's hard work is wrong, I will disagree with a black and white view of the law representing absolute right and wrong. Laws can be wrong. Anyone who faithfully marches along with anything and everything the government dictates is doing a disservice to the government itself-- as well as themselves.

Well, piracy IS wrong. BUT...so are consumer extortion, monopolistic business tactics, draconian user rights terms, media content fixing, payola schemes, contractual and financial screwing of artists, antiquated government supported business models and price fixing, which is basically what the entertainment industry has done. Two wrongs don't make a right by any means, but it's easy to see what pushes a lot of people who engage in piracy to do what they do.

Not to mention the Artist's that aren't lucky enough to own there own music. Only get penny's for each album sold.

I don't understand why more artists are just seperating from the Industries, & selling there music on there Websites.
