Scarlett Johansson is director Cameron Crowes number one choice for the female lead of his next movie We Bought A Zoo.
Having bagged Matt Damon as Benjamin Mee, the movie is a memoir about a widowed father who buys a dilapidated zoo in hopes of making a fresh start. He and his children, along with a small but loyal staff, work to get the zoo reopened. But the story takes a tragic turn with the discovery that his wife is suffering from fatal brain cancer.
Crowe is now looking to cast a female lead to play opposite him.
If Johanssons schedule proves too much of a war zone, Crowe has already shortlisted a variety of talented young things as second best.
That list includes the names Amy Adams, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rachel McAdams.
Oscar-winning screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) has contributed the script adaptation, and the film is set for release on 23 December, 2011.
