Is Spider-Man stil Marvel's flagship character?

Definitely. Spider-man is Spider-man.

I'm going to say yes. even though avengers is clearly top dog currently that is a collection of heroes, individually spidey outsells them all, even iron man.

Yes, he is most associated with Marvel merchandising. He's represents them in one of the longest standing traditions on Thanksgiving Day. The world maybe Avenger crazy right now but that will pass eventually. Spider-Man has stood the test of time.

Spidey is the Mickey Mouse of Marvel. It doesn't matter if the Avengers have made over a billion dollars , people will always associate Spider-Man with Marvel.

Yes, Spider-Man is probably the second most popular superhero after Batman.

As popular as The Avengers are right now, singularly, not one of them really come close to Spider-Man's popularity.

No doubt. He's an "every man", dealing with normal problems, who becomes a hero by accident. I think more people identify with that story than that of any other hero.

Personally, I identify most with Lex Luthor. :o

Depends, I think X-Men might be getting better reception these days

Not really an improvement to me. I'd love it if Captain America could take that spot, but I know that'll never happen.

We could star World War III.

That would fire people up.

If it were really up to marvel, they'd replace Pete with Logan. :o

There is a reason Spider-Man is Marvel's main/most well known character, and it's because he is awesome pure and simple. He has interesting powers, a weird, cool costume, and (as Spider-Man) is a comedian, making fun of people who think theyre top dog. Everyone else hates him, no matter what he does, therefore they suck.

I'd have to say, Spidey seems to stand alone these days, between BND, his stories being off to the side, and Sony owning his rights.
He's still probably the most popular single marvel Character, but if we're talking company mascots, it seems like Iron Man is slowly overtaking him.

I'd say Iron Man is slowly replacing him, at least to the general public.

His stories are hardly off to the side. He is part of the FF, the Avengers, and those groups constantly appear in his own titles.

I'd say Iron Man is slowly replacing him, at least to the general public.
Yeah, but that's more Robert Downey Jr. Than the character itself.

You take RDJ out of the equation and his popularity would plummet, I'm sure.

While Iron Man's popularity has grown thanks to the movies, he's far from being as popular as Spider-Man...

Though Iron Man was one of the first to make it on TV back in 1966 along with Cap, Thor, Hulk & the Submariner in the MMMS cartoons, which only lasted one season... Spidey then made his TV debut in 1967 with his own cartoon lasting until 1970.

Spidey then appeared as a live action character on The Electric Company from 1974 to 1977, and also had his own TV show called The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Nicholas Hammond... Spidey then had TWO cartoons in 1981, Spider-Man, as well as Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends... the former only lasting one season and the latter having two seasons.

After a 28 year hiatus on TV, Iron Man appears in the aptly named Iron Man cartoon in 1994, lasting 2 season, as well as Spider-Man:TAS, which lasted 4 seasons (I think)... which was followed by Spider-Man Unlimited in 1999, and at the same time, Iron Man made a few appearances in the Avengers: United We Stand cartoon... he was not a regular as that cartoon focused more on the West Coast Avengers comic line up from the mid 80's...

After the full length Spider-Man movie that took the world by storm in 2002, there was the forgettable Spider-Man: the New Animated Series in 2003, Spider-Man 2 in 2004, followed by Spider-Man 3 in 2007... the cartoon Spectacular Spider-Man hit the TV airwaves in 2008, lasting 2 seasons...

In 2008, we had the lovely Iron Man live action movie that blew everyone out of the water, followed by the Iron Man: Armored Adventures cartoon in 2009 that continues to this day, and Iron Man 2 in 2010. Iron Man also appears in Avengers: Earth's mightiest Heroes cartoon, and obviously, he appeared in the 2012 blockbuster movie, the Avengers.

In 2012, the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon began, which is still on the air, and coming up this summer is the reboot to the Spidey films... The Ultimate Amazing Spider-Man

Both heroes have been very prominent to the general public over the last 10 years, but I've been seeing Spidey's face plastered all over my school supplies since the early 70's... so while Iron Man's popularity may be growing, he still has a ways to catch up to Spidey.

:yay:

He's the definition of over-exposed. He's a member of the FF and the Avengers??
