Is TDK's Joker the greatest cinematic villian of all time?

Yeah deffo No1 CBM villain I would go with that, a top ten:

1. Joker - Ledger
2. Bane - Hardy
3. Magneto - Fassbender
4. Doc Ock - Molina
5. Magneto - Mckellen
6. Raz Al Gul - Neeson
7. Loki - Hiddleston
8. Two Face - Eckhart
9. Zod - Shannon
10. Deacon Frost - Blade

Darth Vader is the greatest.

But Heath's Joker would make the top 5. Especially if it was only including villains from the last 25 years.

Probably top 10. Too hard to narrow it to one.

But for CBM? Without a doubt.

Top CBM villains list?

1. The Joker (Ledger)
2. The Joker (Nicholson)
3. Magneto (McKellen)
4. Catwoman (Pffeifer, note I don't consider Hathaway's to be a villain)
5. Bane (Hardy)
6. Doc Ock (Molina)
7. Loki (Hiddleston)
8. Green Goblin (Dafoe)
9. Two-Face (Eckhart)
10. Zod (Stamp).

My list.

He would if he was a real character and not an inhuman overpowered godlike creature who had no real plan and no character development over the course of the movie.

Or in short: Nolan's Joker is boring like hell.

Let me guess: Loki's plan to take the world with a few thousand aliens in New York AFTER getting the attention of the most powerful government in the world and uniting/pissing off the most superpowered beings on the planet was a GREAT plan, full of nuanced character development, right?

Agree to disagree.

What does that even mean?

who had no real plan

He had a plan. Take over the Gotham underworld, destroy Dent, and thus destroy Gotham's hope and turn everything into chaos.

and no character development over the course of the movie.

At the start of the movie he was a bank robber with a few henchmen who saw Batman as a nuisance that needed to be dealt with. Batman saw him as a problem that could wait, and the mob write him off as a whack job nobody. By the end of the movie he had taken over Gotham's underworld, was the biggest threat in Gotham, and found that life without Batman would be so boring.

There was development.

The Joker wasn't a character so much as a force of nature, which was intentional. He was a agent of pure chaos and anarchy. The fact that we really don't know much about him is part of what makes him such an effective villain. He's a great villain, but he's not THE BEST. Loki was also a fantastic villain as well.
1. Hannibal Lecter
2. Darth Vader (OT)
3. Norman Bates
4. Khan (both versions)
5. Annie Wilkes from Misery

The mask made it abit awkward for me

Dafoe could have been an awesome villain. If only he could have used his own face and had had a solid purpose and less cheesy lines.

Darth vader takes the top spot. And I liked bane just as much as the joker

Top ten CB movie villains:
1. Joker (Ledger)
2. Loki (Hiddleston)
3. Magneto (McKellen)
4. Doc Ock (Molina)
5. General Zod (Shannon)
6. William Stryker (Cox)
7. Ra's al Ghul (Neeson)
8. General Zod (Stamp)
9. Bane (Hardy)
10. Prince Nuada (Hellboy 2/Goss)

Darth Vader, Frank (OUATITW), Hannibal Lector, Bates, Keyzer Soze, just to name a few I consider better.

To be fair, he did have actual relatable human motivation, which Joker lacks. I know part of Joker's charm is he can't be reasoned with, but in order to do that, we constantly see them playing fast and loose with what makes him tick.

I think in practice, Joker is more compelling, but on paper, Loki comes out way stronger.

He's not the best villain on film, that belongs to Darth Vader in Empire Strikes Back. But he's easily the best CBM villain.

1. Joker- TDK
2. Bane- TDKR
3. Magneto
4. Two-Face- TDK
5. Loki
6. Doctor Octopus

Those are the only CBM villains I can say were any good. Everyone else was either forgettable (See: Every villain in the MCU besides Loki) or horrible (See: Juggernaut, Dr. Doom, all the Schumaker villains).

I found Neeson's Ra's and William Stryker from X2 to be awesome villains and quite fascinating.

Yes.

1. Joker (Heath Ledger)
2. Magneto (Ian McKellen)
3. Bane (Tom Hardy)
4. Loki (Tom Hiddleston)
5. Norman Osborn/Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe)

Not the greatest cinematic villain of all time (I'd give that to Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs), but pretty damn high, and I'd put him as the greatest CBM villain.

The only other CBM villains I feel are noteworthy are Hiddleston's Loki and Magneto (honestly I prefer Fassbender over McKellen).

I did like Michael Shannon as Zod, but I don't think I'd put him up there.

I have yet to find any Spider-Man movie villain memorable (Alfred Molina's Doc Ock could have been with more screentime and less of a big softie at heart), or any onscreen Batman villain besides Ledger's Joker.

As for some great overall cinematic villains:

- Darth Vader (of course)
- Hannibal Lecter
- Amon Goeth from Schindler's List
- Annie Wilkes from Misery
- Szell from Marathon Man
- Agent Smith in The Matrix

Of all the Batman's rogues i like the joker the least so... no. Ledger was ok but there's too much "Kurt Cobain" puppy love still floating about... when the dust settles it will remain a memorable performance for sure.

No, people love Ledger because he gave a stunning performance that is already ingrained in the popular imagination, and will be for the forseeable future. It has nothing to do with his death and I hate when people try and make the claim.

All Ledger, C. Nolan and J. Nolan did a fantastic job with the Joker there. It's true that the character has absolutely everything to be great, and that a bunch of ladies are all about how hot Ledger was, but the triumph of this Joker's version is too evident to be denied.
