Is the Aquaman Pilot better than Superman Returns?

I can honestly say I enjoyed this pilot much more than Superman Returns. What da ya think?

I found the Aquaman pilot interesting. It had some solid ideas and characters that I would have enjoyed watching develop over the course of the first season (and possibly beyond). However, the Aquaman pilot was much rougher and less cinematic in its scope and feel than Smallville's pilot (which remains as one of the best damn pilots I've seen for any show, ever) or Superman Returns. Besides, I love Superman Returns something wicked. My vote goes to SR.

This doesn't even belong here. Move or close.

the aquaman pilot had been action scenes, and fights (because it had a fight!) thats for sure.

Superman Returns. The very idea that the pilot for a cancelled show could be better than SR is laughable.

Superman Returns. While Aquaman seemed alot more watchable than Smallville, it still reeked of G+M-ness

Lame dialouge, blatant sexploitation etc. Typical WB stuff. While the premiere was good, I dont think it would have maintained its intergrity as a series. They made the right choice.

G+M-ness is Gough and Millar, creators of Smallville and the Aquaman pilot. Meaning a show with much promise, that ends up going nowhere(with a lot of teenage drama, think Dawsons Creek), but you still cant' turn away from it, IMO.

At least Aquaman was worth the money I paid to see it. Can't say the same about Superman Returns. :down

Superman Returns.

Superman Returns, INSPITE of a really, really, REALLY crappy portrayl of Luthor and the can of worms that is Superboy, is one of the finest superhero films ever.

One of the finest portrayals of Superman, maybe. But if you've gotta overlook massive, gaping plot holes and a really god-awful spin on Superman's greatest nemesis, I can't really believe it's one of the finest superhero films ever.

Sure it may not be Spider-man or The Incredibles, but theres just something about Superman Returns that was really.... epic. But Luthor was pathetic. Thank god most of the film was about Superman. But what do you mean by gaping plot holes? The loose continuity with the first two films?

The thing about SR that was really epic was Superman. It conveyed a sense of what being Superman might be like, just as Donner's films did before it. On that level, Singer and Routh succeeded in spades. On most other levels, it falls apart. That's why I consider it a really good look at Superman but only a moderately entertaining movie.

The gaping plot holes I mentioned are mostly about the implied relationships between characters. Superman and Lois had sex, obviously, which means their relationship went to a whole new level beyond what the first two films showed. Yet Superman has no compunctions whatsoever about taking off and leaving Lois? Not exactly the Superman I remember. Plus the kid himself will create a lot of problems later on.

I'll stick with my theory that anything about Aquaman is crap. So Superman Returns, which was pretty good.

Ignorance is bliss.

Based on the prequel comics, it seemed like a quick decision to leave. He didnt know how to say goodbye to Lois and of course, while hes likely one of the most intelligent beings in the galaxy as far as scientific knowledge, he still doesnt understand human emotions as much, hes naive.

He also knew that if he saw Lois again, if he told her...he was leaving, he'd never be able to leave.

I have a feeling the whole story about part of Krypton surviving will be played out in the sequel. I think the astronomers were onto something...whatever they saw, will tie into the nemesis for the sequel. Mike and Dan said they want to do Kryptonian survivors for the sequel (that arent Zod). Singer hinted at Brainiac at the con.

Judge SR for SR, let the sequels work themselves out.

As far as Lex goes, just dont expect the John Bryne revamped Lex fully. You get him every week on Smallville. This was a classic Superman tale and the core of his earlier mythos. Lex is part mad scientist, part politician. Its nice not having the same interpretation over and over and from Lex I got some lightheartedness at the right points, and some darkness at the right points.

In fact, its argueable that the scene where he beats the hell out of Superman and stabs him would even be considered too dark for a Superman film, lots have said that. But it was proof this Lex was different, I couldnt see Hackmans Lex pull anything off like that.

Gean Hackman as Lex Luthor. Gawd talk about the single worst casting decsion until George Clooney was cast as Batman. Hackman was the single biggest flaw with Donners Superman movies.

And I feel that Spacey's Luthor was awesome. Best performance in the movie. But when Luthor beats the crap out of Supes and stabs him is completely inkeeping with how the character is protrayed now.

I didn't watch it. Probably won't either.

He was ok, but JLU wasn't really about him.

I havent seen the pilot for Mercy Reef but if Aquaman actually punched someone even if it's once then by default it's already better than that overhyped Gay Jesus allegory.

Yes ignorance is bliss and fruit-flies (reactionary) flock to my fruit bowl of bliss but I'm sticking with it.

spaceys luthor was one of the things that made sr bearable.

I thought the Aquaman Pilot was better. I didn't like Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, Perry, or the Lex they showed in SR. There weren't a whole lot of bad things in Aquaman except Ving got the wrong role. Both movies had great special effects. But Aquaman's plot was much better, except that there were so many things left unanswered--which is how it's suppose to be since it was a television pilot.
