I agree Sony NEEDS this deal; however don't underestimate how beneficial this deal would be for Marvel as well. Bringing home their flagship character and chief money maker would be a huge win for the MCU. Yes it's true that Marvel doesn't NEED him but boy do they WANT him.

I've always disliked the arguments that "marvel doesn't need spidey". Yes that is true, but it's irrelevant. He still gives them so much. Disney didn't need marvel, but they got it. And they didn't need Star Wars, they got it anyways. Whatever brings them more money and more expansion to their cinematic universe, they're gonna wanna get that.

People are also forgetting that Marvel is doing whatever they can to sweeten the deal for Sony (within reason, of course). They're not stupid, they know how stubborn Sony is with this.

I honestly don't think I can vote in this one. As far as I'm concerned, this could go either way. All the contradictory rumors going back and forth don't help either. I just legitimately don't know.

Though I hope it doesn't. :oldrazz:

You said it, man. People who say that "Marvel doesn't need Spider-Man" or "the MCU is too overcrowded for Spider-Man" need to... dare I say it... THINK BIGGER. ;)

Wouldn't Marvel have a hell of a lot more leverage too?
Possibly. Sony would be splitting the costs with Marvel for the Spider-Man films and would pay for some of the budget of Avengers I & 2.

I think the deal is going to happen. ASM2 only made 24.5 million and with the way the last 3 sm movie have came out if they do sinister six and asm3 the movies are going to probly drop even more and much more of a drop off would make sony loss money.

I think Sony has to get its house in order before a deal with Marvel is even considered. Until Sony part ways with Avi, it won't happen. Marvel wants nothing to do with Avi...he has to be gone before Marvel agree to such a deal. Avi seems to have a tight grip on Sony right now.

I think that may be the reason we haven't gotten any pertinent news...maybe Sony is working on a legal/financial way to part from Avi; so, the potential shared deal could much easily go through. Marvel is not going to allow Avi any creative control, that my affect their property continuity moving forward; so, Sony has to realize Avi must go, for a deal to be realized.

Amazing(no pun intended) Avi is holding this company hostage.

Does he have some kind of contract with Sony that forces them to keep him around? Otherwise Avi Arad has not added anything of value to the Spider-Man franchise. Can't the studio decide on which producers to keep or let go?

He's been with Sony as a producer since the first film, and is the reason they even own Spidey. So they have alot of loyalty to him.

Well they can be loyal to him and let him ruin more of their movies, or let him go. Thank him for his contributions, be respectful, and tell him to get lost--I mean tell him they no longer need him if Spider-Man is going to be in the MCU.

Honestly, this deal should be child's play for Feige. The man is a genius

Even still, he and Bob Iger have to manufacture a deal that is good enough to warrant dropping Avi Arad, the source of all of Sony's, Marvel Studios's and Disney's problems (yet who Sony higher ups have an insane amount of loyalty to) as well as handing over creative control.

Oh definitely. Even moreso considering the media would hammer home how Sony decided to go it alone than team with Marvel, and that would affect the box office considerably.

From earlier today, so most of you guys probably already read it

Da7e really seems confident about the information he's got. He addresses the denials and other road blocks, still thinks the deal is very likely. Doesn't sound like everything's set in stone, and that's probably why we know nothing right now. So let's keep our hopes on a reasonable level and hope for the best, if da7e's trusted source is to be believed, the odds are in our favor

That's what I would say if I was making things up.

"It's probably going to happen, so if it does you can call me a God. However, if it doesn't I'm covering my own ass so you can't say I don't have a legit source."- Latino Review

If they had a legit source they'd stand by it no matter what and say, "It's happening." It's all about getting clicks these days... I want RIM back, I trusted him.

So true.

Well to be fair, el mayimbe IS standing by it firmly, for whatever reason.

I'm skeptical, but I'd rather hold out hope for now

Does Marvel need Spiderman NOW? No. But look at the future, it's looking more and more likely that their current big franchises will all end at the third installment. Now, in theory, Phase 4 and onwards can be carried by Cpt. Marvel, Black Panther, etc., but the execs at Disney are going to feel a lot more comfortable if they can replace Iron Man with Spiderman as their flagship money maker.

I just can't see how Sony could think it's a good idea to go it alone anymore.

Agreed.

I honestly believe that a verbal agreement has been made. However, even with the verbal agreement, its gonna be some time before pen can be put to paper, and everything signed. And even then, one side can decide to scrap talks.

There's ALOT that they have to get in order before its all done, and Spidey can start popping up in the MCU. But I'm confident they can work through it all.

I think it's generally agreed upon that we won't be hearing anything for a long-ass time. This is going to be the biggest thing to happen to superhero movies since the MCU itself. And, generally, the bigger the event, the longer it takes to make that event happen. No great thing is worth rushing into without being properly developed.
