Well to be fair, el mayimbe IS standing by it firmly, for whatever reason.

I'm skeptical, but I'd rather hold out hope for now

Yeah. And its stupid to say it will happen, no matter what, when nothing has been made official.

Da7e was right to say that he believes that it will happen, but that we should be prepared for the possibility that it doesn't.

is the deal still likely? honestly, knowing sony, no.

should the deal happen, YES.

Sony, Marvel, if you make a deal then I hate you forever. :p

Agreed.

I honestly believe that a verbal agreement has been made. However, even with the verbal agreement, its gonna be some time before pen can be put to paper, and everything signed. And even then, one side can decide to scrap talks.

There's ALOT that they have to get in order before its all done, and Spidey can start popping up in the MCU. But I'm confident they can work through it all.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking as well. I honestly believe that one of the studios would make an official announcement shortly after this deal gets made and set in stone. But right now, if there is some kind of an unofficial "verbal" agreement, they can't announce everything. The executives need to sit together, have their lawyers talk things out, sign contracts, discuss finances, etc. It gets really complicated. We are talking about sharing a billion dollar property here, so the stakes are very high. Talks can break down again, or maybe they can work out.

Whatever the case, I don't think it will take forever to work out such a deal. I can't say it will be figured out by next month or whenever, but it has to be sometime soon.

This is what I'm thinking pretty much. Hopefully it all makes it's way onto paper

I think it's possible. But if Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios make a deal, we will not know anything until them inform us offically at an importan event, like Comic-Con. If there's no deal, in few days surely, Sony Pictures will annouce something, maybe "The Sinister Six" or "The Amazing Spider-Man 3".

I think we would get an announcement very soon from Sony if the talks break down. "Tom Hardy officially cast as Sandman in Sinister Six" for example. If a deal is made then we may very well be left in the dark until comic con (something I find to be cruel for us fans), so in this case: no news is good news.

Not for you, at least :woot:

I think they should announce a confirmation of a deal being made prior to SDCC. Then they can use that convention to announce the new actor and bring him on the stage.

bro, sony makes playstations. how can you hate them?
Cause PC master race yo'!

Seriously though, if they don't come to some sort of agreement with Disney to get Spider-Man in the MCU I'm going to be one unhappy camper. An unhappy camper that could be writing them a STRONGLY worded letter expressing my disappointment in them. I doubt they'd want something like that on their conscious. The deal definitely isn't going through though, Sinister 6 it is...

In the context of this conversation, I am specifically referring to Sony PICTURES.
didn't sony pictures also make breaking bad? :oldrazz:

i'm just busting your chops man. all these conglomerates have done bad stuff, probably.

I feel your pain dude. back when I was in high school and IM1 first came out and some kid was gossiping about how all marvel characters are gonna be in each other's movies, I was like, "spiderman too?"

then 4 years later we had avengers and those years building up to it, spiderman was just not a part of it so I was not a part of that hype train for that very reason. My favorite superhero as a kid who was also part of this huge universe, NOT a part of it cinematically. What was there to be excited about?

the mcu for the most part is great. having spidey not in it is a huge minus. and for those of you saying stuff like "well I prefer spidey to be a loner" tough luck guys, I wouldn't even care [blackout]actually maybe I would[/blackout] if they continued the asm series with just mcu easter eggs like the oscorp tower. that's all we need as an indication that spidey is operating in the same universe cinematically as the rest of our marvel heroes. but having a cinematic marvel universe without its flagship character makes it seem so empty.

Hehe I know man. :)

I think Sony Pictures is good with its television stuff, but its just the movies that are suffering more. Their best property seems to be James Bond and that's co-owned/co-produced with MGM.

Same! I loved Iron Man 1 and was excited about the Avengers, but a lack of Spider-Man decreased my interest in the franchise. TASM1 was coming out that same year as the Avengers and I wasn't sure of which to be more excited about. It just felt sad that Spider-Man was being bordered up by the walls at Sony while these other minor characters were part of this gigantic cinematic universe.

yeah man. sounds like we are on the same page about this. back in 2012 I was mostly hyped up for dkr (look at my username and signup date) but marvel-wise, the most exciting thing for me to hear about was the oscorp tower, honestly.

I finally went ahead and voted no. Maybe it's a bit of wishful thinking on my part, but as more days pass by I really don't see it happening.

I'll level with you man. SHOULD it happen? Yes, absolutely.

is it LIKELY? no, because I know sony can be extremely delusional. they could easily tell themselves they won't need to work with disney and wa la. on we go with the asm series independent of the mcu.

Yes, Sony appear to be a little delusional and lack direction, not only in film & entertainment, but more specifically Spidey...however, just because most of us think the deal "should" go through...from their pov, they don't want to just hand over creative control over their only, most profitable commodity...regardless how beneficial "we" think it may be for them, and all involved. No company, organization, or person, likes to have their destiny control by another.

But even they should understand that continuing with the TASM series or rebooting once again on their own is risky. Plus, their silence on either film is deafening.

key word there is SHOULD. but it does not necessarily mean they will.
