Is the USA a pseudo-fascist state? (Police constantly abusing people)

Yeah, I spend a lot of time debating this because almost every sociopolitical thread I get involved in here calls for it. It all comes down to this eventually.

I am not talking about an "ideal" world. You interpret it that way. I am just a logical person who points out objective facts about where we are currently and where we are heading. Nothing more, nothing less.
There can never be an "ideal" world or Utopia. Just a better one, that is constantly evolving and going through changes.
You do frequently post about things that are never going to happen as if they will though. The world will never become vegetarian let alone vegan. There will never be a total peace in the world even as the world is more peaceful than it's been in recorded history (the Ukraine, Afganistan and other smaller conflicts are nothing compared to what was happening).

And while I have no problem with idealism or idealogical thinking, it has to be tempered with reality and with the realization that no matter how much you want, it will move in a direction no one can predict. That the world is better than it ever has been seems lost on you, but it seems lost on a lot of people who only see the negative, awful side of the world and don't see just how much things have improved, even if you don't like the way some of those improvements have come about.

There is no denial that the world has improved in some ways and I acknowledge that, but there are still a lot of awful things happening around the globe and the majority of the Earth's population is not exactly living a comfortable life. Not to mention the constant depletion of the planet's recourses and the contamination of the air and sea. My point is that we can do even better and I won't simply settle for what we have now.

And I am sorry for repeating my self over and over again, but we won't get any further with the mindset of the past and the old concepts of leadership. That's just how it is. Politicians and Presidents only cause more problems. They don't get elected to change things for the better. They are put in that position by the mega corporations and bank institutions to keep things exactly as they are and serve their own personal agendas. How can one not see this obvious thing and take action?

We are living on a planet with thousand of nuclear warheads for Christ's sake. How can I live without a care in the world and settle for what we have, let alone raise children in a sick corrupted world like this?
Mind you there were a lot of today's achievements that seemed like a fantasy in the past but are a reality today. Like the man would never fly, never go to space etc.

You speak for me in this thread.

Does that mean Teelie can make wildly outlandish and absurd opinions in this thread and accredit them to you?

Awesome. Do it Teelie.

As for Alex though, massive global change like you keep saying you want to see is impossible to have done at this time except with massive global upheaval and unless there is some sort of global change then this won't happen any time soon. Change takes time and will continue to take time. We won't likely see that type of change for decades yet so as it is you have to continue living life as you see fit, if you don't feel that you should bring kids into a world like this then don't but if you keep waiting until it's a better time then eventually it'll be too late.

What action do you take outside of internet forums and comments?

Gladly to explain. As I have stated in the past there are some things that are feasible for the average citizen to do.

1. don't vote or support any politician/political party
2. turn off your TV
3. don't join the army
4. avoid credit card and loans
5. grow as much as possible your own food
6. don't consume like a maniac shiny things you don't really need
7. limit your family's cars to one and use a bike
8. get involved with open source projects and community stuff

Those come to my mind right now. It might not seem like it is something, but that's what we can do and if it happens in a global scale, then the establishment will lose much of its power and wealth.

I do think that people should eat less meat, but I doubt people will say yes to vegetarianism/veganism in the near future. One of the reasons is that many vegetarians (especially vegans) are angry, arrogant and preachy. They scare people away...my sister-in-law was bullied by one of them at school. The bully used to go around and check other people's lunch to see if they ate meat. "Wow' you eat animals? How evil."

I wonder why someone didn't reply "you eat knuckles?":woot:

Yes. There will always be wars. People fight over silly stuff like Superman's underpants and soccer.

I know changes take a long time. I'm just trying to set an example and put the pieces of the puzzle together. See problem is, we think in shortsighted terms of the well being of our family and our country. We fail to realise that humans, animals and the whole planet are part of the same equation and linked together. The sooner we realise this, the better our lives will be.

I had an awesome steak on Friday.

1. Maybe.
2. No! I need movies.
3. I can't join the army, I'm a psycho.
4. No problem.
5. I grow some vegetables. Tomatoes, chili peppers etc.
6. No problem.
7. Don't have a car.
8. Community stuff? Like the church? Yes.

Oh come on now, you haven't met all Vegans in the world and claim that we are all angry and arrogant. Speaking of which...
You should watch this, it explains perfect the arrogant/preachy thing you mentioned

No, I didn't mean all of them. I used to be a vegetarian, but I didn't bother anyone with it. I ate my rice and beans and shut up:woot:

You can watch movies from the internet also. Anyways.
Nah, I don't mean church or any religious stuff. I mean something more practical and science based, like joining a Hackerspace group
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackerspace
helping to create open source software and hardware and things like that.

That's stealing:csad: And I like DVD covers. Have you seen the cover for the complete Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers box set? Beautiful. I have always liked the White Ranger's outfit. The green costume is also very cool.

One of the best things about the 90's.

No church? Sounds empty and a little bit boring:csad:

Not stealing. Just sharing.
I used to collect box sets and dvd movies, but it doesn't thrill me anymore. Just useless stuff that my room can't hold of anymore.
lol if you prefer church then go ahead. Whatever suits you best.

I had the same problem. Threw some of my movies in the trash (Inside, House of 1000 Corpses, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her lover and horrible stuff like that) gave some of them away to the library or some friends/family members. I shouldn't have given away Ghostbusters 1 and 2, though...:csad:

I'm already on it.

Cthulhu and his cousin the Flying Spagetti Monster want all humans to start eating bacon only, and wearing collanders on their heads while singing Justin Bieber songs.

lol What a nightmare that would be...

Cthulhu causes insanity and nightmares. He wants nothing more.

Oh come on. I'll download a show or a movie here or there, but at least I can admit that it's stealing and I'm doing it because I don't always want to spend money and because I can. At least own it, instead of hiding behind you're ideology.

Haven't read any of the Cthulhu stories yet. Is that the actual plot from one of them?

The Dunwich Horror is pretty creepy. And Pickman's Model...even better is "The Great God Pan", which inspired Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror. Recommended!

Is it also stealing when you borrow a dvd, or a book, or a music cd from your friend's house? The difference is that with the internet you can borrow a movie any time of the day and browse a larger collection.
And last thing the average joe should feel guilty about is for "stealing" digital bits, simply because his income won't allow to buy all the entertainment stuff he likes.
Not to mention that there are online services that you can pay to watch a movie just as you pay for your TV, if you feel bad about downloading it for free.
See? Problem solved.
