I know they lost the key in his ship to the Phantom Zone. But, is their any chance that the key (w/Jor-El's program) survived elsewhere? For example I know it was cleansed from the scout ship computer by Zod. But, could the program knowing it was going to be deleted...Upload elsewhere?

It would be nice to know that Supes can get advice from Jor-El and also have access to Kryptonian knowledge.

God i hope so, Russell Crowe as Jor El was not only some genius casting, he was one of my favorite characters in Man of Steel.

Really hope he reprises his role in a future DCEU film.

NO.

Put this topic in a bag, and zip it.

Yeah, I have wondered the same thing, and also hope for Jor-El to return down the line in the DCEU.

Presumably, Zod erases Jor-El's AI just locally from the scout ship. But the big question is: was Jor-El backed up elsewhere? If they want to maintain some continuity from the comic books, that will indeed have been what happened.

I feel Superman fans absolutely should be treated to a Fortress of Solitude that includes Jor-El's AI! Russell Crowe is on record as stating he really dug the Jor-El role, and he has also said that he'd like to star in a Krypton based prequel. (I really hope we do see that. But they'd better not wait too long on that if it ends up being a go, because Russell ain't getting any younger.) But anyway, yeah, WB PTB, FFS please write it so that Jpr-El was backed up, lol.

A bit off topic. But, I liked this....

Too bad you didn't do this as a poll ZIPBAGS. I'd be curious to see what people want here (unscientific sample though this is).

The only time we really need Jor El is the origin story

Me and my brother joked about it.

Do you oppose it? Or just feel it ain't happenin'? No way, no how?
I don't feel it happening after Zod reprogrammed/removed him, and Kal-El currently has no way of putting him back.
Wasn't the ship he was in destroyed almost completely?

Yes. Easily.

Consider how the AI program was delivered in the first place. Jor-El taps a few buttons on a console, the Command Key is assembled, and then placed into Kal-El's vessel.

Then consider how many Jor-El AI programs were out there at once: One original copy in the Command Key, one copy loaded into Scout Ship, one copy loaded into the Black Zero... at least two of those were active simultaneously.

Finally, consider how Jor-El's AI on the Scout Ship may have acted. Kal-El has left, Zod's ultimatum appears, and Jor-El knows Zod is coming for the Genesis Chamber on the Scout Ship. Jor-El is a man whose contingencies allowed for his son to cross the stars... is it completely out of the realm of possibility he fabricates a new, second, back-up Command Key containing his consciousness, and then sends it from the Scout Ship in case Zod were to come and compromise him?

It's not necessary or certain that happened, but it would take all of 10 seconds to establish how his AI survived if they ever wanted to bring it back.

  1. Show YOU ARE NOT ALONE while Jor-El fabricates a new Key
  2. Show a Keelex-like drone carrying towards the Arctic horizon
That's it, we can put the rest together.

Only way I see is via the S key that was left on the black zero, maybe if they do something with the Phantom Zone in MOS2 then I could possibly see a return.

And/Or

Jor El could return in MOS2 if there's a flashback to Brainiac bottling Kandor or something.

One things for sure I want to see Russel Crowe's Jor El again, he was fantastic.

Zod erases Jor-El's AI program--but (!) it may only have been deleted from local storage, or from the scout ship's database that is uploaded to the Black Zero. The Black Zero gets sucked into the singularity, and the scout ship crashes in Metropolis after Superman disables it with his heat vision.

But at any rate this is presumably super-advanced AI. I would think that one of the first orders of business that Jor-El and Kal would have attended to, once Kal met Jor-El's AI, is to back it up in a safe place. If data is precious and important it gets backed up. Jor-El is a scientist. And I doubt that he would be lax about trying to ensure that he isn't wiped out or stolen by any potential threat with the means to do so.

And hey, Jor-El is a Kryptonian, after all! Kryptonians are all about survival.

Thinking about it....

The logic in your post is sound, and I shouldn't shove it aside, considering the science fiction movie logic you describe may be more realistic than I want to believe.

I do hope they at least mention a fortress of solitude in any upcoming movie.
