Is Vertigo doomed?

Do not worry

DC will not kill off such a popular character. Constantine is safe

Huh, why do you even think they would kill him off based on this news  I mean, why would you even think Vertigo is doomed anyway, the amount of super heroes and other characters from the main DCU that they publish is pretty low at this point. With Unknown Solider getting canceled, there's only Constantine, House of Mystery and Madame Xanadu. Which, yeah, I guess that is several considering the size of the line and all, but I doubt if DC decides to move those to their main publishing branch it'd be enough to cripple and discontinue the Vertigo imprint

All it basically says is that Swamp Thing may be coming back to the mainstream DCU publishing line.

DiDio has wanted Swamp Thing to come back to the main DC Universe for quite some time now. That's all. No need to panic.

Yet, we lose a planned fifth volume from Vertigo which would've been written by China Mieville.

I'm excited for this. Hopefully it'll have a good creative team.

It's not just Swamp Thing, but all characters that originated in the DC Universe.

Honestly, I think it's for the best. I think that Vertigo would be best used for mature creator-owned materials like Brian K. Vaughan's Y: The Last Man, Grant Morrison's The Invisibles, Jason Aaron's Scalped, and Bill Willingham's Fables.

Chillax Chicken Little, Vertigo's gonna be alright.

Disagreed, without the Vertigo imprint DCU related titles like Madame Xanadu and Constatine probably wouldn't exist, or at least wouldn't exist very long. I see no problem with Vertigo branching out and using some DCU stuff in different ways. Sure, they go overboard with the separation, but most of this stuff wasn't being used anyway, at most you sacrifice some off-shoot cameo here and there in some titles. Really, I would almost go as far as saying Vertigo is the right place to launch DCU titles that deal heavily with magic, since it seems it has a more sustainable audience there

Eh, I doubt that would have happened regardless of this if hadn't by now. This is probably the best move for Swamp Thing, though I doubt much of anything will come of it anyway.

This is awesome. Hopefully Swamp Thing will be good. It'll be nice to see him back in the DCU again.

I've never understood why characters couldn't just interact with each other across the DC/Vertigo divide. They're not two different companies or anything. Vertigo's printed tons of comics featuring DC characters, and the fact that they have to be downplayed so much or made so awkward because of this weird moritorium on crossing characters over between the imprints just bugs me. I liked the old, proto-Vertigo days where the Martian Manhunter could appear in Sandman and no one thought anything of it.

I have no proof or anything specific to draw this from, but I always had a suspection some of it was do to the fact that the Vertigo editor(s) simply want to distance themselves from the main DC publishing arms to stay away from people like say, I don't know, Didio, who really have no business being in charge of creative directions. I mean, even now it seems like it can happen, Madame Xanadu's had several cameos and guest spots from main DCUers.

I'm sure that's not the only reason or anything, but with the way Didio's been running DC's main publishing, I can see wanting to shut them out completely from your imprint whenever someone like that comes around. Just a theory on my part, though

I think your theory is probably correct
