X-Men Origins: Wolverine Wraps Principal Photography!
Written by Robert Sanchez
Friday, 23 May 2008

It's a wrap for Wolvies' principal photography that has currently been shooting in Australia and earlier in New Zealand.

Marvel's Kevin Feige told IESB that X-Men Origins: Wolverine has just wrapped principal photography in Australia and that there are only a couple of weeks left for some pick up shots second unit will be taking care of.

Several sources close to the production have described X-Men Origins: Wolverine as a gritty 70's type of action film.

Leading up to the events of "X-Men," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

Sounds cool, so Wolverine of the X-Men is going to be telling his story to other X-Men members?

Good to hear.

I'll second that.

"Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new" worries me, though. I fear that this means they may be creating new characters for the film - which is absolutely ridiculous considering how many mutants there already are to choose from in the X-Universe. But they could just be implying that "familiar" mutants are those we've seen in the films already, and "new" mutants are ones we haven't yet (but have existed in the comics).

But, anyway, glad they've wrapped filming.

What is a 70's type of action film?
Death Wish, Dirty Harry, The French Connection, Get Carter, Assault on Precinct 13, The Getaway etc.

Though I doubt XMO:W will be anything like those...

Wolverine doesn't know his story, so he's not in much of position to be telling it to any one. I think it's set exclusively in the recent past.

Nice now we have to wait a year for the film to come out haha.

I'm hoping it's the latter.

Haha. Yeah, but at least there's plenty of time to tweak the movie if need be.

Wow. We may actually get a trailer by July at this rate.

It'd be awesome if they could get a teaser trailer out for TDK.

yeah, can't wait to see Gambit, hehe.

The Dark Knight is a DC/Warners production. They're not going to want to advertise their competition's film.

As for tweaking the film ---- Fox knew the fans reaction to the leaked script and early reviews of X3 yet chose not to do anything about it.

Sure they would.

Don't you remember? The Dark Knight's recent trailer first appeared in theaters with Iron Man. Whoever makes a film, it has little bearing on what movie the trailer its attached to. Even Superman Returns debuted its final trailer in front of X3.

There's no competitive issue there, despite the differences in studios. I work at a movie theater and how trailers are put in front of what films, has very little to do with the studio or distributor, but it has everything to do with release date, its movie rating, and the movie content.

I wonder if there's going to be alot of post production work. By that I mean the special effects. With all this time they have, I hope Blob will be CG.

Yeah, considering the amount of time they've got, I expect the special effects to be on par with Transformers. I really hope they do a good job finding the perfect balance between CGI and the real stuff (Set dressings, props, etc...). It's really easy to go overboard, or even to not use enough.

Its a wrap and we have basically zero set pictures, no teaser poster....nothing! They're doign a good job keeping this one under wraps unlike X3 which had huge spoiler pictures popping up left right and centre every 5 minutes.

True. The trailer can premiere with any film from any studio. If it's from a different studio, that just means it's not attached directly to the print. Theater managers decide what plays with what If Fox wants it to officially play with each print of a film, then they attach it to one of their own films.

I'm pretty sure that "new" just means mutants that haven't been in any previous films before.

That article is an announcement for everyone not just comic fans, so I don't think "new" means they are creating brand new characters/mutants.

I'm glad they're done...not they can start showing us some finished pics in the near future.

comiccon san diego will have the trailer no doubt about it

Yup. An entire year of post-production. If this wasn't a visual effects movie it would be released by the end of the year.

What? That's it? Post production already?

Seems a little quick to me. We've got nothing.

I actually don’t mind not knowing much at this point. I thought they released too much material for The Last Stand and it wasn’t always a very well organized campaign.

I don't believe it has wrapped. I know they've had the wrap party and have released the second unit crew, but they are still filming in the studio with the principle actor and that is supposed to continue into June.

The movie probably doesn't need almost a year of post-production. If Fox wanted, they could get it ready for the end of the year but they don't want to.

The release date is everything to do with giving Fox their summer tentpole for 2009.

I guess it hasn't "technically" wrapped since second unit is still working and they are reportedly doing pick-ups , but the "wrapped" info came from Marvel's Kevin Feige, so I guess he should know! I think they must mean most of the main filming is done.
