dunno if its old news or not....
Downey, who has battled his fair share of inner demons, worked hard to get the role, getting in shape and even growing a goatee like the one Stark sports in the comic books.

"In every casting announcement we've done, people in their mind's eye have their own view of it and let us know about it. We're used to it," Feige said. "The point is, we looked at everybody, and we found the best person for the role. It's as confident a casting move as we've ever done. The proof will be in the pudding, but he is Tony Stark."

Marvel president of production Kevin Feige said the filmmakers looked for the best actor to embody the character.

"The Marvel characters are not just about how high they jump or how fast they fly, they're about their character flaws," Feige said. "They're about their inner demons. They're about the struggles that they go through between being a man and being a hero."

so hes gonna be muscular!...yay!..lol

^Sigs denote intelligence. That one exemplifies the polar opposite of shrewdness. It's . . . plebian.

Now, on to Roberto: He sounds motivated, but this news is a long way from principal photography, let alone the end of filming. I hope it works out and his determined commitment bodes well for this film.

His antics are commonplace, but those type of fiascos can't happen or it will ruin this film. Iron-Man is one of the better comic-book heroes and I'm hoping for the best.

Downey will be a good choice for IronMan IMO....I wonder what he will sound like in his suit though..Hopefully it will sound awesome

[Forrest Gump]My Mama always said you've got to put the past behind you before you can move on.[/Forrest Gump]

There, there. Life lesson for us all.

Chocolates anyone?

Oh, and to uphold the continuity/respectability of the thread. . .

In short, Robert Downey Jr. is an amazing actor; watching him onscreen is hit or miss but he has potential, and his zeal is commendable. His stage prescence is undeniable and he shows true passion for the craft. He claims that his 'eight ball' days are behind him, so who are we to question?

Robert is Tony. Downey is Stark. Jr will become an Iron-Man.

edit - The only Tony I know who has a six-pack yells: 'They'reeeee GREAT!!!'

It's nice to see that he really wanted the role. I think he'll work out better than expected.

I hope they can make him somewht younger looking

If they can make a 57 year old Sigourney Weaver look younger in "Heartbreakers," I'm sure make-up can shed a few years off of Downey.

Worst comes to worst, they can use that video air-brushing technique they used on McKellen & Stewart in X-Men 3.

Wouldn't that be a bit costly and tedious? lol. I mean, I guess if they have to they would...but I don't think they will need it.

That´s pretty cool. Wanna see a picture.

Glad Downey's growing a goatee.

It was expected, but whatever.

Good to hear he worked hard for the role, im glad he got it.
As long as he really is right for the role then everything will be cool.

Didn't we already know this?

lol, yes, its nice to see people excited about the film. I am thrilled to know that Robert busted his butt to land the role, it speaks volumes about him and the script and what he thinks about the movie.

Great news, can't wait for that day, when we will first time get pic with him in IM suit!!!

i really hope the director goes for the whole inner demon angle

i REALLY hope the iron suit wont be too clunky other than the grey suit

downey is good.
