Hiddleston just doesn't have a Bond-esque "look", to me.

I don't want a black actor playing Bond either. As much as i love how diverse cinema has slowly become, there are some characters that just won't be the same if their gender or race is changed; i.e Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, Blade, etc....

I think Bond's character is more dependent on him being white than Peter Parker or Bruce Banner.

There are aspects of Bond's character that hinge on him being an old money white Englishman of a certain generation and background, that wouldn't be there if he was black.

Agreed with everyone since my last post.

I would quite like to see a Black Bond but I do agree that being white and British are more important to the character than either of those would be for a good many other big characters of cinema.

Frodo: That was true in the pre-Craig Continuity, but it certainly isn't likely to be now, since they've actually explicitly defined the character's age this time around.

They retroactively made Quantum and Silvia part of Spectre. Its not out of the realm of possibility they'll go a younger actor in their 30s.

How does expanding the universe equate to them completely disregarding what they've established for the character's age and going with an actor who can't match said age physically?

Quantum being an arm of SPECTRE isn't something that makes no sense. It just needed a one off line, is all. Silva, i'll give you that. That sucked.

Because Dalton totally matched Moore's age.

Craig is so goddamn funny. He really gave the feeling of being up for another. Great podcast interview.

Pre-Craig, the character's age had never been explicitly defined in-universe. That's the biggest difference between how they approached the franchise previously and how they're approaching it currently.

The problem of casting a younger actor - Cavill, Stevens, ? - could be easily fixed if in his first outings as 007 he is made to look in in late 30's or (better still) early 40's and as the films are made to bring him back in appearance to his actual age. The actor could then play Bond for quite a few years without needing to be replaced.

There are other British actors who could be considered: Andrew Lincoln, Clive Standen, maybe even Benedict Cumberbatch?

I definitely want the current progression with Fiennes, Harris, and Wishaw to remain in the cast.

Every time there's a new Bond actor it's pretty much a reboot. The last time I believe they tried to connect a new Bond actor to the past one was OHMSS and when Connery came back for Diamonds it seemed like they ignored that one.

Nobody really pictured Dalton's Bond as the exact same Bond as Moore or Brosnan's as Dalton's.

So continuity shouldn't even be a consideration in actor casting.

The more I think about it, the more I'd like to see the continue with the story of Bond as an aging spy, and push it beyond what we've seen in the past. Ian McKellan for Bond!

Matt Mira gushing on Craig, and how much Craig actually loves Bond was great. He even noted that it was 2 days after filming for '6 months straight', anyone would take the piss.

Most folks do dismiss Bond being 'old' or towards retirement in this last quadrilogy but it does make sense if one considers a spy is like a football player.

You only have so many good years, when your going 110% all of the time in a very physical job.

How about you quote my full point. Why don't you actually provide something of substance to counter my point then?

Whether official or not (the idea of an "official reboot" is a 21st century concept) every new Bond has been a de-facto start of a new series within the Bond franchise. Except with the example I already cited.

So, did the 00 Section get dissolved?

Connery's Bond IS Lazenby 's Bond IS Moore's Bond IS Dalton's Bond IS Brosnan's Bond, and we know this for the following reasons:
1- The "cold open" sequence of DaF is a direct result of OHMSS ' ending even though it's not explicitly stated
2- Roger Moore's Bond visits Tracy's grave in the "cold open" sequence of For Your Eyes Only
3- Timothy Dalton's Licence to Kill directly piggybacks off of OHMSS' ending and Tracy's murder
4- Moneypenny and James' interactions stay consistent in all but two movies (Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies) regardless of which actors are playing the characters at the time
5- Felix Leiter and James' history is consistent and carries over through all of the former character's appearances refardless of which actors are playing the characters at the time
6- Desmond Llewellyn and Bernard Lee's M and Q treat James exactly the same no matter which actors they're playing off of
7- Tracy is referenced, either directly or indirectly, in at least one movie of Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan's tenures with the character
8- In Goldeneye, Judi Dench's old!M directly references Bond's history by calling him a "misogynist dinosaur" and "a relic of the Cold War"
9- Brosnan's Bond directly references the Bond family motto of The World Is Not Enough as revealed in OHMSS

That doesn't change the fact that your notion of Bond aging in real time and them constantly having to cast an age appropriate actor to suit said aging, will kill the franchise within the next five or six films.

Its not "my" notion; it's what the producers have done with this new continuity.

Bond starts Casino Royale as a 38-year-old, and ends SPECTRE as a 46-year-old. You can't just reset the character's age or race if/when Craig leaves unless you reset his entire universe, and there's no reason for them to do so.

Bond is supposed to be ruggedly handsome. Brosnan is too much of a pretty boy.

This is as close to a real life Bond as you are gonna see.

latest

I can honestly see Henry Cavil pull that look off - for sure, he is handsome, but when he smiles and does the model squint. I have seen plenty of shots were he doesn't look 'model' like - his hair as well, with the wavy high hair line can be seen as similar. It's too bad Fassbender isn't 10 years younger!

Fassbender doesn't need to be "10 years younger" to playvthe role, though.

It is your notion, because while they have mentioned his age they don't emphatically say he ages in real time. You're suggesting he does. Which is insane because it would mean the character would be pushing 60 by the next actor's third film.
