James Bond In Skyfall - Part 10

Right, so it isn't a rule. We are just saying that TSWLM was probably Moore's best outing as 007.

Disagree. The 3rd film of Connery, Moore and now Craig are being regarded as the most memorable, iconic and the film where they really found their comfort zone in the role.

So the praise continues from the US

Wow. Just wow.#SKYFALL is one of the best James Bond movies and one of the best films this year.

Just watched advance screening of Skyfall. Bardem is a formidable opponent to Bond. Twisted yet funny. And the hair!!

How on earth can anybody say that Skyfall is the most 'memorable' of Craig's movies? Few people have seen it, and none have had the opportunity to remember it for more than a few days. What is more, Craig still has at least two more Bond movies that have not even been written. Is Skyfall more memorable than those, too?

I still maintain that this 'third movie formula' is not consistent enough to be remotely valid. Especially with TwINE which isn't well regarded at all (some people like it but that's all) and does not apply to the other Bonds.

It's a scattered brain theory just being used as hyperbole. Yes I also agree it also dismisses favorites (and highly regarded) movies like Casino Royale, GoldenEye FRWL and to a lesser extent LaLD.

There is no such rule in my opinion, sure TSWLM is my favorite Moore Bond-film, but it also ends there for me.

Goldfinger is great but I love both From Russia With Love and Thunderball even more. And even though The World Is Not Enough is nice in parts, GoldenEye is still pretty clearly Brosnan's best.

Also, even though I'm stoked for Skyfall, Casino Royale is so fantastic I have a hard time seeing Skyfall being considered Craig's far away best Bond.

I just read part of the script on this and needless to say, this will INSTANTLY become my favorite Bond film.

So, apparently the GoldenEye Blu-ray is terrible. Was going to go pick it up today to get the taste of the nasty DVD I have out of my mouth, and every site I checked says it is perhaps even worse then before. Instead of cropping, a terrible source. Will they ever release a good version of this film? They keep messing up and royally.

Okay, now I think some are taking the "third = best" theory a little too seriously. Saying Goldfinger is Connery's bestor The Spy Who Loved Me is Moore's best doesn't discount any others for either of them - and if you think that's true of Brosnan or Craig, same thing. It's like when I say First Contact is my favorite Star Trek movie; I'll probably be asked, "You don't like Wrath of Khan?" I love Wrath of Khan, but First Contact does more for me. And as with Star Trek's "the even films are good, the odds are bad" theory, which has an exception or two as the "actor's third Bond is their best" theory, it doesn't hold up perfectly, but that doesn't mean it's invalid. It goes as fara s it goes, there's not a lot to it, let's not take it too seriously.

Try using your head. As of right now, SF is being regarded as memorable and not just Craig's best but one of the best in the series. This is a sentiment echoed by 99% of everyone that has actually seen the movie of which there are many.

I didn't know it was until I was on IMDb just now, but happy 85th birthday to Sir Roger Moore and 32nd to our new Q, Ben Whishaw! (I got a kick out of seeing it was Moore's birthday today, as I'm at the end of rewatching his Bonds.)

Goldfinger is overrated and is only recognised as such simply because the Americans slept on Dr.No and FRWL and only recognised Bond once GF came out.

Don't be absurd. It's nearly 50 years since it came out and it's still considered the best of Connery's movies by most fans, and considered the best Bond movie by many fans, film historians, and other Hollywood alumni.

A movie that's nearly 50 years old and still able to pack a punch like that for five decades, especially with 21 other Bond movies in competition with it, is far from being overrated.

Absurd? Hardly. Most fans will tell you GF is overrated and is not the best Connery film let alone best Bond film. Maybe you're confused and think I'm saying GF is a rubbish film. It is not but it's most definitely overrated.

Film historians?? They'll just cite the iconography and the cultural significance it had, which juxtaposed with the 60s creative revival that was going on at the time and the blah blah blah formula, which tbh, regarding the formula had already been established in FRWL. Like I said, most people and the majority of the American audience slept on Dr.No and FRWL and didn't wake up until GF came about.
If you ask the general public, they'll cite GF as the best and that's because they don't know any better or at least they're not as entrenched with the series as the fans are. It could be 50 years, 5 years or 500 hundred years, the answer will be the same, GF is the best to them because as sad as it may sound, it's a traditional answer to give. Hell, 10 years ago, people would cite OHMSS as one of the worst Bond films alongside MR, TMWTGG and DAD. Ask any Bond fan now and the majority of them will tell you that OHMSS is a superior film to GF. I appreciate you love GF and think it's the best but to many people it really isn't and it is highly overrated.

Yup, pretty much being reported in various U.K. broadsheets that Skyfall is simply excellent. Cant wait.

Try using yours. Do you know what Daniel Craig's fourth and fifth Bond movies are going to be like? Are they potentially less memorable than Skyfall? Is his performance better or worse in the fourth? How does the script from the fifth compare? Also, please give me some idea of how Dalton and Lazenby's third Bond films turned out. Do they help or hinder your establishment of 'the rule'?

This is stupid guys, as are the Goldfinger/3rd movie arguments. This thread usually doesn't require me to do anything but enjoy posting about Bond, lets not change that so close to the Skyfall release.

How about some Bond girls:

Yeah. One ticks half my boxes, while the other is looking after the rest.

According to many reviews, Harris comes off as the better and sexier Bond girl.

Didn't Goldfinger win that Bond film tournament we had a couple of years ago on this very board?

Funnily enough, I just finished goldfinger. It's still damn good

It's just goldeneye is the best.

Thanks mods for deleting my post :whatever:

I don't know why you are rolling your eyes, I asked quite civilly for this argument to be dropped, you ignored me, I've deleted the posts that followed as well as clearly this has lost any focus on Skyfall and has become a personal and pointless beef over which Bond films are preferred.
