They're a communist country but we need their money and products. Whatcha gonna do?

While I thought Javier Bardem did a great job, his performance simply the one that stuck out to me in this film the most. Part of it I guess is that the archetype that his role fit into was one that we've seen a whole lot of the past few years.

Personally I was far more impressed with Daniel Craig and I think he deserves far more credit than he has received. I really bought his struggle in this film.

Craig is a great performer and he did a great job in this movie as a wounded and aging Bond who is getting past his prime. But generally these movies do not get major awards recognition even with widespread critical and audience support. He did a great job in Casino Royale as well and to me he's been the Bond to nail the Fleming character the most.

Since indeed enough praise isn't given to him, I'd like to contribute by saying that he was once again amazing as James Bond. All 3 movies (QoS to a much lesser extent) had him undergo change and growth as a character and he's been able to convey that effortlessly so far.

I wasn't even speaking in terms of actual awards, just in general, but I agree entirely.

What I really loved in Roger Deakins Cinematography was that scene where Silva was walking away from the burning mansion. The lighting on that scene was top notch and Oscar worthy by itself. Same quality of lighting he manage with Jesse James.

They said throughout production that Skyfall wouldnt feature anything Quantum related. Doesnt mean that the organisation [or Mr White] cant return in the next film.

Exactly. SPECTRE were nit featured in GF and then showed up again TB.

What about Camille coming back? I forget who said it, but that article said it's possible we could see her again.

Didn't care for her character. Hope we don't see her again.

I liked her, and cannot believe that Bond left her lady parts unexplored. That plot hole needs to be seen to.

*Cue Roger Moore eyebrow*

Agreed, Lime. The Shanghai sequence is neat but it's a lot of flash. But if anything is gonna win Deakins the Oscar is the entire Scotland sequence. That was some of the best lighting of his entire career, and that is no small feat. I've never seen anything close to its quality in an action movie ever.

Congrats to Skyfall...$300 million domestic.

The Shanghai sequence, particularly the jellyfish fight is my favorite shot in the movie and should just grant him the Oscar.

Yes! Finally. First Bond movie to do so.

Sign Craig for another five movies!

Anyone think it can beat the worldwide take of Dark Knight Rises? :D

The 21 Jan midnight screenings in the Wanda IMAX theaters in Beijing are almost sold out, and the one 20:30 screening (in only one cinema) is sold out. The other movies have more screenings (6 per days), they're making it an event for the day of release clearly...so to answer your question, a resounding yes.

Figured it would do well with China with most of the second act taking place there.

What makes this shot so great and makes Deakins so deserving isn't just how well composed and beautiful shots like this are, but how well it puts information across. This shot very much sums up Silva for me, a shadowy figure out to burn down the structures of the past and everything Bond represents.

First wave of audience reactions are out: some think it is good, while lots others think the pace is too slow without much action. Seems they're not too impressed ...
WTF ...
Early day showings are starting. Not looking good ... :(

Here comes the first number.
Skyfall midnight opening, RMB 1.7M with 43000 admissions from 900 screenings.
I am so disappointed. :(
Early day shows are not good either. GA think it is (a little) boring.

Matinee performing for Skyfall is rather disappointing, if not awful ... :(
People keep saying the actions are too little.

Meh wom should mostly affect its legs. But disappointing midnight and OD ? must be the piracy ...

The BD version is out already.

I wonder if they will wait four years for the next one too.

Too early, maybe?

Too early, maybe?

Possibly but as of now it's not looking great.

43000/900=47.7 which roughly means only 48 people per screening for opening weekend. That's massively underwhelming but we'll see how things progress.
