Bond is watching you Thread Manager!

Just speculation, but I'm guessing the box handed to Bond is incriminating evidence clearing or implicating Judi Dench's M (and if not her, some other character).

I agree that QOS is not half as bad as people say...my problem with some of the Craig bond is perhaps I'd like at least a small dose of the "bond cheese" every now and then. I don't need Die another Day levels..but some moments were just awkward. I need a few more witty quips per film and I will consider these movies some of the best.

Someone in the other thread said that Sam Mendes is the best Bond director. I disagree, for starters we havn't seen any actual footage and secondly, the title imo is still held by Terrence Young.

TWINE was a mess of a movie. It started off great but then Apted got his wife involved which resulted in screwing over the script. Sf won't suffer that problem. Logan's script alone is being highly regarded by all parties involved and it's what attracted the majority of the acting talent to be a part of this movie. I think Sf will be a brilliant movie and will surprise many people.

Yeah, Young overall had the best movies. Dr. No, FRWL, Thunderball

Guy Hamilton has Goldfinger, but Live and Let Die doesn't live up to those movies, and don't get me started on The Man With The Golden Gun.

I should point out that I think cinematically, Lewis Gilbert has the best looking Bond movies with You Only Live Twice and The Spy Who Loved Me. Beautiful cinematography.

I actually like TWINE because, beyond Richards, the characters were well written and performed. There was a sense of drama to things. Apted just didn't bring enough scope to the proceedings or a kinetic enough pace. But I wlll point out that TWINE also had a much hailed screenplay before its release with Wilson having touted it was the best written Bond ever (he did a draft on the screenplay after all....).

Just call me dubious. I'm still of the mind that CR worked because it was based directly off Fleming and Martin Campbell gets Bond better than any modern director we've seen to date. QOS and TND are interchangeable in their mistakes of being boring, plodding, underwritten messes. Sam Mendes hasn't impressed me since Road to Perdition. I'm looking forward to Skyfall, but in a cautious way. I don't know why so many assume it's going to be amazing after QOS's fell flat on its face arguably like the post-GE Brosnans did as well.

What box are you guys talking about!? There's no box in that picture:huh::huh:

My problem, other than the really obvious problem (Denise Richards) is that the directing felt weak, and Renard. Don't get me wrong, Renard started out great, but then he just became more wimpier as the movie went on. I know they wanted to humanize him with his problem (which btw really pushes suspension of disblief more than any other Bond villain), but he just came off as emo and whiny. He was also too small for Bond too. I say he should have been bigger.

TND I didn't find to be a mess. I just found it too safe a movie that also has a weak villain, and underwhelming action sequences. I wasn't wowed as much by any action scene as I was with some of the sequences in Goldeneye. And as I mentioned before, they could have done so much more Carver and his manipulation with media. I felt like he could have done so much more damage than he actually did.

I'm liking Bond's new look. He looks older and more hardened.

Marlohe Berenice is so fine. I hope we see more of her soon.

I agree with all of this. With Mendes directing, Deakins as the cinematographer and Logan added to the writing team with Bardem and Fiennes added to the cast.....I think we will be in for a treat of a Bond film.

I think people underrate the small little jokes and puns that actually were present in Casino Royale. They're quite subtle and in character, but very much there. Bond and Vesper play off each other very well.

"How's the steak?"
"Skewered. One can empathize"

"If all that was left of you were your little finger and your smile, you'd still be more of a man than any other I know."
"That's because you know what I can do with my little finger"

Among others.

Skyfall or The Property of a Lady - what title is best?

Tough one. SkyFall seems more like in your face action adventure title, while TPOAL seems more of subtle, elegant, yet mysterious title.

I only said Mendes is the most talented director helming a Bond movie. I think based on his movies he is the best director taking on Bond. I'm not saying he is the best Bond director, that's a different thing. His style might not fit the franchise at all, the script might be bad, the action may falter etc.

Yes I agree Young has easily done the best Bond-movies so far, along with Campbell I'd say. But I'm not a huge fan of either of them outside the Bond franchise. Which means they are great Bond directors, not necessarily great directors overall.

All in my opinion of course. American Beauty is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Agreed. Some of the dry and witty humor needs to return. I love that part in Bond movies, Connery ruled at it in his movies. And Craig showed in CR he has the means to pull it off. It had alot of underrated funny moments with great charm, those Bond moments where you just can't help but smile. QOS lost all that.

Charming and witty, even silly sometimes with those dry puns. Would love seeing that return in Skyfall.

Those little comedic moments in the Bond films are always the best, here's one of my favorites:

Those are great points but CR had a lot of more going for it than just that.

Especially the acting and chemistry between Craig and Green and the way it really brought the film to another level emotionally. Something rarely seen in Bond movies, it really connected with me that way.

Arnold really brought his a-game to the soundtrack too.

Hell, almost everything about CR was awesome. :D :hrt:

This scene was EXACTLY what i was thinking of. Love the "father" comment. One of the best lines snuck in a bond film.

Generally speaking, Fleming's TPOAL is better. Though if a lady's property doesn't relate to this film's plot it doesn't come into the equation.
