To keep it visually interesting I think I'm gonna need to see a new significant alien race.

What else has he been in since?

Edit: Sam Worthington, think I was replying to a really old post.

Clash of the Titans. Nothing else of anything significance.

What makes the Na'vi anything more than blue humans?

I cut JC some slack because back when he created these things it wasn't a rehash. This **** was floating around in his creativity hole back in the 80s but he had no means to bring it to light.

Aside from the Clash movies, he was really good in The Debt and Sabotage. Also I hear he's in Cake (the Jennifer Aniston movie) which has Oscar buzz.

Pony tail USBs?

Well that was pretty cool though.

I'm sick of watching movies like Star Trek and GoTG where aliens are not distinct from humans.

With the USBs, Cameron fundamentally altered the ecology.

Yea, putting a ridge on someone's forehead doesn't make them an alien.

I kind of like those. Can't remember if he was any good in them.

Cool, might check those out.

He was not.
Ah, wasn't expecting so even though I do remember enjoying the films. Hopefully he's learned a few tricks in the films Kane mentioned.

Giant Studios To Close After Selling ‘Avatar’ Technology To James Cameron

Atlanta-based Giant Studios has sold the proprietary performance-capture technology used in Avatar, the Lord Of The Rings trilogy and The Polar Express to James Cameron and Jon Landau’s Santa Monica-based Lightstorm Entertainment and will shutter soon after 15 years in operation

Giant’s research and development team will continue to develop the technology under Lightstorm’s purview as Cameron dives into production on Avatar 2, 3, and 4, the company announced.
“The company and its shareholders are pleased that Jon Landau and James Cameron have acquired the technology and will be dedicating their resources and talents towards its continued development,” Giant’s CEO and executive producer Candice Alger said in a statement posted to Giant’s website. “I am confident that James Cameron will take the technology far beyond our wildest imaginations.
“He has already had a tremendous impact in the field of virtual production, and his use of the technology on the first Avatar film opened the doors for others to be able to leverage some of the tools that were created for Avatar in film and video game productions around the globe,” Alger continued.
Film and video game projects that utilized Giant’s mo-cap technology over the years include the first Chronicles Of Narnia film, Iron Man, Real Steel, The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Unicorn, Jack The Giant Slayer and video games Halo 4, Call of Duty 3, Devil May Cry, Fable II, and Jade Empire.
The company will close its doors after it completes its remaining contracts.
Cameron, meanwhile, is prepping his Avatar sequels in New Zealand. He penned all three films with Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno, and the first sequel is set to hit theaters in 2016

Agreed, it's getting ridiculous, science fiction has so much potencial, though i would cut Star Trek some slack, since their aliens were created in the 60s for a tv show with a limited budget, i'm still very impressed by how much they were able to achieve with the limitations they had, though nowadays, the franchise has a bit of a contradiction by trying to idealize the future, while at the same time having all the aliens be humanoid, this is one instance where the "ancient aliens who created life in the galaxy" kind of plot would actualy make sence.

About the Na'vi, they were what they were, they were supposed to make the viewer have more sympathy with the Disney eyes, cat like appearance and all that, but in the end i think they served their purpose well, even if some aspects in their appearance and culture ended up being a bit too much like humans.

Can't wait to see what James Cameron will bring next, it's crazy to think it's been longer than half a decade since the first one came out, i remember that even back then i was more excited by the idea of Cameron making the sequels (the man has made 2 of the best sequels of all time) than the original, which already looked like a Pocahontas with Smurf aliens in the trailers. In the end it was a serviceable movie, it wasn't as dumb as some like to make it out to be.

Once this is done, James Cameron also needs to start making more movies, some of his upcoming projects sound very interesting, and he's one of the best science fiction film Directors around.

i would like to know how can the avatar sequel be realesed in december 2016 with less than 2 years of post production?

because its an avatar movie with the most advanced complex cgi. movies that have a smaller cgi count had more time.

Apparently Cameron managed to do it, he has the resources and the technology is known.
I don't find that odd, then again, I don't work in this field.

Considering all the delays the project is being constantly given, it's also possible that Avatar 2 could end up in 2017, or even 2018 if they keep delaying things so much.

POst prod wise you are looking at slightly longer then a year per movie. However they can't really start post until filming wraps. It was the same with the first movie when it came out. It was first announced to be released May 2009 but once filming wrapped and WETA started work on the movie , then it became clear that VFX work was far more extensive which lead to the release date pushed back .
ILM was later hired to handle some VFX shots because WETA ( even with all that time) still couldn't handle all those VFX shots.

Personally i wouldn't be surprised if the movies are delayed by a year with the first movie coming out Dec 2017.

And on that note...

James Cameron says Avatar 2 delayed until late 2017:

Will people still care about this franchise at that point?
