James McAvoy is a Wanted Man

James McAvoy has landed the starring role in Universal Pictures' Wanted, a sci-fi actioner that will mark the English-language debut of Russian filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Wanted is based on a comic book series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones published by Top Cow. The story follows a put-upon young man who discovers that his long-lost father is an assassin. After his dad is murdered, the son is recruited into a covert organization of killers and trained to follow in his father's footsteps.

The comic is considered hard-core, and the movie probably will be rated R.

Universal-based Marc Platt set up the series in March 2004 and will produce with Jason Netter and Jim Lemley. Top Cow's Marc Silvestri is executive producing.

The script was written by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, who wrote Universal's 2 Fast 2 Furious.

The trade says the movie is a priority for the studio and is anticipated to go into production in first-quarter 2007 with a budget of less than $100 million.

McAvoy's credits include the role of Mr. Tumnus, the Faun, in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

I didn't even know this was getting a movie, hope they do it right and i expect a post in this thread from Shinlyle :p;)

Your wish has been granted!!!

I am on the fence about this film. This comic is so freakin' brutal that anythign less than an R-rating IMMEDIATELY does it a great injustice. Honestly, an NC-17 rating would probably be required to really capture it panel after panel...seeing as how a popular pop star is raped and murdered for part of an initiation ritual.

I mean, two of the characters' names can't even be said if it's PG-13!! I'm referring to S***Head and F***Wit, of course.

The screen writers from 2 Fast 2 Furious being involved doesn't bode well at all...but if I see that it's going to be rated "R", then I'll overlook it. The script shouls mirror the comic, seeing as how it was a limited series, and it isn't reliant on continuity from other comics over a long period of time for it's backstory.

This is without a doubt my FAVORITE comic of all time, so I'll be the hardest person to satisfy. It may be impossible, and I may end up hating on this film 24/7, but I really pray that I am proven wrong, and this fgilm is handled the way Sin City was....just as literally translated from panel to screen.

I don't know much about the comic but I'll definitely check it out once I have some money to spend :p

I loved Night Watch so I can't wait to see what Timur Bekmambetov does with this. Also, James McAvoy is a great actor so this should be interesting to see.

such a wicked comic that if it isn't translated I'm IGNORING it COMPLETELY.
go page for page or take a walk Hollywood. Needs an X rating, not R. How the heck are they going to pull this off?
Adaptations suck mostly, get a clue and sniff no more glue.
High expectations on this end.

There's no way they'll do a direct translation, simply because an NC-17/X rated movie wouldnt sell to anyone except the small group of fanboys who love the comic, such as ourselves. I can deal with an R rated adaptation as long as it gets the big stuff right.

After reading a bit on the series, I'm going to have to pick up the graphic novel. Sounds interesting, and from what you all say, if they get this close to an accurate adaption it will be an intense film.

This might be something to watch out for.

From what i know, Wanted is an amazing series, but i haven´t read it yet.

I´m after the TPB like crazy, but so far, even got them yet...but i will ;)

On the movie, and by the word on the comic....hell yes

I just read the british tabloid the Daily Mail and by god they got it wrong, or at least I hope they did.

They said most likely it'll be PG-13 (I bloody hope not, it would lost all that makes it Wanted) and then it goes on to say the book is loved by kids and adults throughout the world

Well, it certainly sounds like they did. It wasa tabloid, they're not known for their dogged pursuit of the truth.

They must be thinking of some other "Wanted"
