I'd be very cool with this. I know everyone wanted The Fisherman/Black Manta... But Orm/Ocean Master makes sense to me. It may draw some Thor comparisons, but all is depending on how the script is

I'm digging it. Aquaman has risen to my #1 anticipated CB movie. Heck, right now he's been my favorite super hero. I need to get some more of the new 52...

Well, I don't care about that movie at all but sure, why not?

Oh boy, this is AWESOME. Wan is a huge catch, especially since he's just made the 4th biggest movie ever worldwide.

For those interested in his filmography:

    Saw (2004)
    Dead Silence (2007)
    Death Sentence (2007)
    Insidious (2010)
    The Conjuring (2013)
    Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
    Furious Seven (2015)
The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist (2016)
    Aquaman (2018)

I've seen his name pop up in some threads around here and other places. I don't get it myself... but hey, it's cool, man.

All I know is... WB/DC has got me hyped. :woot:

I'm hope Aquaman gets a trilogy including Mera, Black Manta, Ocean Master, King Shark and The Trench.

If this movie deals with a brewing conflict between the land dwellers and Atlanteans, Ocean Master could hire Black Manta to orchestrate attacks on military (or even civilian) vessels at sea - framing Atlantis as the responsible party. This, of course, incites fear in the world's nations and builds pressure for their leaders to take action against this growing threat. At the same time, Manta could attack Arthur and his loved ones, with the intention of deluding the people of Atlantis into thinking the land dwellers are attempting to assassinate their leadership.

All part of Ocean Master's plans to usurp the throne from Arthur and incite war - while building up Manta as a credible, deadly threat of his own.

    I agree!

I would seriously just adapt the New 52 but in a different order. Start with Throne of Atlantis (Orm), and then do Black Manta, then The Trench.

WB must've been all like "Hey James, do that thing where you made a film that grossed a billion." :o

Wan is a fantastic choice. I'm dying to see what new things they can do.

Aquaman is the DC film I'm most looking forward to

Never seen any of his movies but the guy just made a madly successful movie so good going WB. Can't judge him as a director really though.

Also, Robotech ? Last time I checked, Tobey Maguire had filming rights to the property.

The possibilities of "horror expert James Wan meets The Trench" almost makes me salivate. That could be so cool/freaky, should the film choose to include them.

I am surprised and a bit horrified that the response to this news, at least in this thread, has been so positive. James Wan makes vapid box office fodder. There is not one great film in his oeuvre, and he has been active for over a decade now. Big box office returns do not necessarily align with quality filmmaking. In no way does this development bode well for those hoping for an engaging Aquaman movie.

People piss and moan about DC films being "dark" and wish that WB would go more crowd pleasing with their super hero tent poles. WB hires director that just made a crowd pleasing tent pole to helm Aquaman... People piss and moan.

Anyone else wondering if it's going to be funnier than people are expecting? I haven't seen Furious 7 yet and I barley remember the original Saw but I consider the Insidious movies to be comedies with horror elements.

Most directors Marvel hired were not exactly auteurs either, directors like Louis Leterrier, Alan Taylor, Joe "Jumanji" Johnston, Jon "Zathura" Favreau, James Gunn.

I think that at least James Wan has been successful both commercially and critically. (Furious 7 - 82 % on RT, Conjuring 86 % on RT.)
