Japan issues tsunami warning after magnitude 8.3 earthquake

Screw Gary Coleman! Someone save Webster and Mini-Me!

isn't an 8 on the Richter Scale basically complete destruction if it hits land?

it's not the size of the tsunami, it's the motion under the ocean.

Yeah, I don't see how a 8.3 earthquake could only trigger a 3.3-foot-high wave.

The inital wave would be much larger. 3.3 feet (unless a misprint) is the height at impact which is most likely a very long way from the origin.
