Jared Leto IS The Joker - - Part 11

Remember when they wanted Gosling but he wouldn't commit to a multipicture deal?

I'm assuming Leto is in for a few films.

I wasn't on these boards during the TDK times but I have a hard time imagining people actually detested that look. He didn't look like my version of my ideal Joker but he still looked like a Joker. Surprises me sometimes what people end up liking/hating.

It was, quite literally, a madhouse. To be fair, no film since TDK had the kind of hype that movie had, and I don't think we'll ever get one that will. It was the perfect storm, Superhero films still weren't nearly as commonplace as now, and it had been almost 20 years since Big J had been seen in live action.

The speculation of who would play him was gigantic, and we burned through tons of threads just debating that. Hulme, Depp, and Bettany were amoung the most popular names. Heath came out of left field completely, and his casting alone inspired tons of debate. "The guy from a Knights tale? It'll be Brokebat Mountain!"

The first pic is when things really blew up. It pretty much split the fanbase. Some people hated it, some people loved it, some people, like myself, weren't sure. And to be fair, that first pic was much more dramatic in how striking the cut smile was and the makeup. Ill admit, I wasnt a huge fan, but I was intrigued.

But the look spawned a whole thread called, "In Nolan I don't trust," and a counter thread, "In Nplan I trust" or something to that effect.

It also started the great "perma-white vs Makeup" debates.

Those were nuts. They lasted from the release of the first pic right up until when the film came out. For a solid half year or so, the debate on ledger was massive. It wasn't until we started getting more pictures, Caine dropped the tidbit about his performance being "Oscar worthy" and finally the first trailer came out that the debate about him started to die down.

In comparison, everything surrounding this Joker has been very tame. And to be honest, I dislike this design more than I did Ledgers. But overall, the reaction has been pretty tame.

Maybe Katana kills him and removes his soul.

Or Harley. Since it seems we're getting her origin story and we're going to see all the ****ed up ways The Joker torments Harley to make her insane, I think it will be a huge pay off at the end of the movie to see her kill him. She's probably the protagonist of this movie and we're really going to feel for her. We've already seen glimpses of him torturing her and beating her. I can't imagine them putting her through that without her coming out on top in the end. In this cultural climate we're in people would flip haha.

Joker put Samuel L Jackson's coat from the Matrix in purple paint.

Wow, sucks you feel that way about it. This picture especially is the most "Joker" you could say I've seen him (he's already looked Joker in other photos). He looks completely out of this world, unreadable, and disquieting.

I know. I wish I could love it...

Well

At least the performance will be good, hopefully that will help me look past the Marilyn Manson meets the Matrix look

:lmao:

My thoughts exactly. I think the performance will be fantastic, but that look...Ugh.

Chipe your avvy is seriously going to give me nightmares

Loving. That. Coat.

Not that I see Joker dying at all, but I think it's much more interesting to have him go from the one person Harley can't bring herself to kill to the one person she doesn't concern herself about at all. If she has to kill him, then he still has control over her.

lol

I love reading those threads from time to time. Also, why was that ''Joker'' poster banned? He had over 30k posts. One of my favorites is that one guy who kept talking smack about Ledger and then he ended up having his avie. lawd. Fanboy hypocrisy.

I still think that tatts are lame, but his performance will no doubt make me over look that.

I think Roven said "business man" in the sense that he's like Nicholson's Joker, a gangster (but modernized)

Yeah, dude. It was a crazy time. And I forgot the most controversial topic of all -- Heath Ledger's casting. That was the biggest "WTF" moment for me and many others. I remember being legitimately pissed off at the casting announcement because, for the life of me, I couldn't "see" it at all. Then the reveal of his appearance and the fact that he wouldn't be perma-white was also a pretty shocking blow. Eventually, I become completely sold on it and, of course, he blew me away in the movie.

In comparison, Leto's casting was pretty much accepted and welcomed from the get-go. And even now, the overall reaction to his "controversial" appearance is much more time and certainly less divisive.
