If you read my other point it's not even about how close to classic Joker his character will look but how they presented him with this "edgy", "hip", "modern" look, which regardless of what the Joker is wearing is not how you'd describe that character.

Either way the performance will count the most but the image is still silly.

You forgot the part about him also having normal skin color as opposed to white skin. When has the Joker had that? And outside of Bermejo's art, has classic Joker always had facial scars that look like a fixed smile?

It's amazing how in only a few years time Ledger's look is considered "standard" for Joker now. In spite of being unique to this day.

Tats be damned, it still holds no candle to the day I saw a makeup smeared, scarred up Joker. I should know, I threw a fit for a year over that.

the marilyn manson comments make a bit more sense to me than the lil wayne comments, but that's probably because MM is my preferred artist. or because the grills/facial/lip makeup look undeniably similar.

I don't think it's a coincidence our first-look has evoked the instantly recognizable 'Terry Richardson' aesthetic. Any modern celeb who's a somebody calls on Terry to shoot their iconographic photo which will be remembered for years to come. That's the aim anyway.

Speaking of, both Leto and Wayne have done shoots with him. And I can't help but be reminded of this:

Seeing such a direct parallel makes me lean on the notion this is a fake-out by Ayer/Leto/Snyder. A satire of what our culture has adorned; a shtick none too uncommon for Joker. But time will tell.
