Jared Leto IS The Joker - Part 9

It's there if you are looking for it, just as you could find Nicholson in Ledger etc.

I'm sure Leto will make the character his own, the least of my worries is him occasionally sounding a bit like Ledger.

Well, he's creepy. That's one thing he managed at least. But I don't think it's fair to judge from 5 seconds of footage. I'm wait till I've seen the movie to decide :3

Apart from the Ledger like voice he's using, and the panda eyes, I don't see any other similarities.

Snap. Hate the design for the character. It's dreadful. One of the worst Joker designs ever. But I love the casting, and the acting I've seen so far. But I don't know yet if it's going to be enough to overlook that horrendous Joker design.

What were your thoughts when this was going to be what Ledger's look was being based off of?

You honestly thought this was an amazing design when these set photos leaked?

You mean to tell me if you saw those set photos a year before the movie came out you wouldnt have thought the design was horrible? Or at least not a good Joker design?

It really wasnt until the movie and Heath's amazing performance truly made everything fit/work.

It was a wow moment. Yea I could totally see the Joker looking like that, I could totally see and understand his appearance. The context of the movie and the quality of the performance enhances your view of the character. The look works for this character and that movie.

You say that you like Leto and think the performance will be good. If you believe that then you'll accept his appearance in this movie without any dislike. Because the director, writer and actor made it work. They made it believable for you.

Will they? I dont know. IF they did deliver on those areas then the design of the character wont matter at all.

I don't mind that he sounds like Ledger. I was worried they were going to make him sound like Mark Hamill's stupid TAS version, which I've always hated. The show was good, but I've always thought that version of the Joker was so lame. That's also why I've never warmed to Harley Quinn, though Margot may change that.

Not that I agree that he does, but who the hell cares if he sounds like Ledger? I can pretty confidently say that it wouldn't be a mark against Leto if his voice was reminiscent of Hamill's (excluding Rowsdower! lol). Mainly because no one associates Hamill's take with "dark and gritty." But because Ledger's take is associated with that, posters seem to think it's some sign of the worst to have something even remotely similar.

It's like "Oh, WB is just trying to show how dark and gritty they are by knocking off Ledger's take on the Joker. They obviously have no clue."

But if it were BTAS inspired then you'd see, "Oh, WB is really embracing the character by having him be more like Hamill's Joker."

Both are valid sources to take inspiration from.

Star Wars cultists? I'm pretty sure most Batman fans love Hamill's Joker.

Leto's won me over, I'll admit when I first saw the pic of his Joker, I didn't really care for it that much, but after seeing that clip of him in the trailer...he nailed it for me! I must have replayed that thing over 30 times now, and I don't even notice his freaking tattoos.

Damaged? I forgot all about it, lol.

I am far too focused on the insanity shooting out of his eyes, the cruel glee in his voice, and that smile streaching ear to ear. :woot:

I LOVE the silver teeth now, it makes his smile look HUGE!

I don't know why people are still hating so much on the teeth, even Ledger didn't have a perfect pearly-white smile, his teeth were stained/dirty. He just didn't smile that much (still love him to death), and even though Nicholson's face was frozen in a permanent smile, frankly I never thought it was that impressive.

But when Leto smiled at the end...now THAT is what I call a Joker smile! :ilv:

Now I still have to actually see Leto's full performance before I can make any sort of decision as to where he ranks in my list of favorite Jokers, but judging from that little clip alone...I am really excited to see his full performance.

And this is just my opinion, but I think once people actually see him acting out full scenes with other actors, the tattoos won't be such a big deal anymore. Because people will be focusing on his performance, on his acting, and his body language, instead of staring at his chest or forehead.

A good performance can go a long way toward making people accept a different 'look' (Ledger is proof of that).

I remember when the internet complained about a) Ledger's casting b) the non permawhite appearance. It is amusing how fanaticism changes...

LOL, you're just discovering this? :cwink:

Seriously, I think the majority of fanboys out there feel like something must be wrong if they can't find something to hate about a movie.

Oh no trust me I've known this a long time. Just still amazes me sometimes haha. Yep you're right there's always got to be something for them to hate on. So much fun!
You guys do realize I was not saying anything negative about the upcoming movie version right? :whatever:
I must be the only one who can't hear anything 'Ledger-esque' in Leto's Joker voice?
Not only you. I don't hear it in the slightest.

Dark times.

Did anyone found a similarity betwen what we have of Jokleto and Jack Sparrow? specially the voice...
not complaining, just commenting.

I was thinking Steve Buscemi.

Maybe Mr Burns.

I'm personally getting a Justin Timberlake 2001 AMA vibe from Leto. :o

What were your thoughts when this was going to be what Ledger's look was being based off of?

I loved it. The only time it knocked me was that very first pic of him, that close up shot of his face where we couldn't see his body, or even his hair. I didn't care for that. Then they began to release more pics, with the green hair, purple suit etc, and I loved it.

You mean to tell me if you saw those set photos a year before the movie came out you wouldnt have thought the design was horrible? Or at least not a good Joker design?

That's what I mean to tell you.

It really wasnt until the movie and Heath's amazing performance truly made everything fit/work.

Maybe not for you, but it was working for me long before TDK came out. I can dig up my posts from the pre TDK release days and show you I was on board with Ledger's look if you doubt me.

You say that you like Leto and think the performance will be good. If you believe that then you'll accept his appearance in this movie without any dislike. Because the director, writer and actor made it work. They made it believable for you.

You say that like it's a foregone conclusion. As though that's definitely going to happen.

I know what I like or dislike. I'll decide when I see the movie next year if Leto's performance will be good enough to overlook his horrible design. It's not like it's set in stone.

As a die hard Joker fan it's not exactly a fun feeling to get a version of the character that looks terrible. So believe me when I say I hope your prediction comes true.

I don't mind that he sounds like Ledger.

Me neither. There's nothing wrong with sounding like one of the best.

I was worried they were going to make him sound like Mark Hamill's stupid TAS version, which I've always hated. The show was good, but I've always thought that version of the Joker was so lame.

:shock

Why did you think he was lame? Because he wasn't allowed kill?

There is only one word that Leto says that I think sounds a bit like Ledger, and that's the first "Really."

Everything else basically sounds like Leto to me.

I think I heard Jim Carrey once say "really" like that in some movie.

Maybe Leto's Joker is based on him.

Do you find LeJo's laughter infectious? I don't know, every time I hear his "eh he he he he", I just grin stupidly.

The speech might have hints of Ledger, but dat laugh...

It sounds like an old hag's cackle or something.

LOL it kinda does :funny:

But that's why I like it, it's totally unique to Leto and doesn't sound like any other Joker I've ever heard.
