Jared Leto IS The Joker - Part 9

I would think WB had him sign a contract stipulating multiple films. Besides, he has an opportunity to do something that Ledger and Nicholson did not. To flesh the character out beyond the confines of one story.

Uniquely, he also has the opportunity to play the character within a kind of love story. That must give an actor a great deal on which to chew.

I'm sorry, but Jaker and Kim Vale had the nicest love story.

That was nonreciprocal, though, so I wouldn't really count it. Jacker failed to realise that, however. :funny:

Poster Posse.

If I was Ayer I would have one similar to that. Also would have one with Waller instead of Joker. Showing how they both are capable of manipulating people and they "hold all the cards" so to speak.

I don't think their is any real 'love' between Harley and Joker, even from Harley's side.

What Harley really feels for Joker, is Obsession.

And while obsession can sort of resemble love (why so many people confuse the two) ultimately it is self-destructive. When you are obsessed with a person or a thing, they become the center of your universe to the point where nothing else truly matters.

The best example to distinguish obsession from regular healthy love, is that obsession is like addiction...you might recognize it's bad for you, that it's destroying your life, but you can't give it up.

Harley views her relationship with the Joker as romantic, because she can't face the reality of what has happened to her. She lives in a fantasy world where the two of them are Bonnie and Clyde to avoid the cold hard truth that Joker destroyed her life. Joker recognizes this, and therefore he plays on Harley's fantasy to keep her attached to him so he can continue to use her for his own goals (hurting Batman). And so long as Harley lives in this fantasy, Mr. J can continue to use Harley as he sees fit.

That's how I always saw their relationship, and why I always found it rather fascinating despite how abusive it is. But I usually tend to avoid discussing Harley with other fans...because a lot of people tend to romanticize her relationship with Joker to the point where it seems some of them share Harley's 'fantasy' with her.

I really hope Ayer goes all out and shows their relationship for the truly screwed up look on obsession and mental illness that it really is. That's more fascinating to me then some silly Bonnie/Clyde romance.

Just my opinion of course.

An interesting view, but I do not think there is a qualitative assessment of love which is extricable from the personal experience of it. Teenagers understand this better than most.

Definitely starting to think The Joker will be in this movie alot more than we originally heard. Early rumors were that he'd be in a cell most of the movie ala Hannibal Lecter, looks like he'll be out running around more than we thought. He may even be the main villain or at least a strong antagonist throughout.

Indeed, that will be a welcome change. Unfortunately fate intervened with Ledger. Leto would be only the second actor in live action to return to the role other than Romero. That's a long time between drinks.

The case of Harley Quinn: Her madness defines her. Is she mad because of WHO she loves or because she loves him so much? #skwad

So which one do you think picked? Or maybe he did both.

If they're smart they did both. They go hand in hand.

I bet you that's a direct quote from the film, which is great if it is.

And I bet that the question will never be explicitly answered, nor should it be.
