This year and month Jaws just turned 40.

One of the greatest films ever, one of the most masterful horror and adventure films, one of the greatest Spielberg masterpieces etc. has stood the test of time and still is loved as it was for 40 years.

This movie invented the summer blockbuster paving the way for Star Wars and more. It has historic importance to cinema and motion pictures you know. I saw it 30 years ago on a local TV station in my city and i thought it was scary and thrilling.

Who thinks the blu-ray looks amazing with it's new restored PQ on HD from the original 35mm camera negative as you think it was filmed in 2011 with today's filmmaking technology?

They're going to rerelease it into 500 theaters at the end of this month.

Before “Shark Week,” “Deep Blue Sea” and the monstrous whirlwind “Sharknado,” there was “Jaws,” the great white terrifying millions to the chilling score by John Williams. 40 years after the fish antagonist hit the big screen and Robert Shaw’s boat, the film will now make a reappearance.

On June 21, nearly 500 theaters nationwide will show the thriller for its anniversary, presented by Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies and Universal Pictures.

In 1975, Steven Spielberg’ directed the adaptation of the Peter Benchley book; it became an instant success and virtually invented the Hollywood summer blockbuster. Just before the film opened, Variety’s A.D. Murphy in his review hailed the film as “an artistic and commercial smash.”

Tickets go on sale Friday, May 29 at FathomEvents.com and participating theaters.

A classic, one of the best ever obviously. One of my favorites. Definitely going to be watching it sometime this month.

I'm going to see it in Atlanta next month. The Fox theater is showing it.

Slightly off topic (just a few posts into the thread...) but like Cameron's recent comments on him having an idea for a Terminator reinvention, a few years ago Spielberg said he has an idea for a Jaws sequel that he thinks is pretty great.

I would kill for those movies.

Wait, when did he say that? I must hear this.

A Jaws sequel should not exist, but if Spielberg has it, I'll listen.

You're aware that 3 sequels exist right? And honestly Jaws 2 is good haha

It was the Indianapolis prequel wasn't it? Young Quint surviving at sea with his army buddies as the Sharks flocked in and ate hundreds.

And count me in as a Jaws 2 fan.

Those three sequels are likely why he thinks none should exist. :o

No, no idea at all, but I have a very, very good scene which I thought would have been good for a sequel someday, which I will tell you someday because I don’t want it in print. But I’ll tell you my scene some day. Every time I think of this scene I think, “Hmmm, could this be another Jaws movie?” and I have to immediately stop myself and immediately pull myself back down to Earth.

This movie has been sequeled (Jaws 2 was decent) and imitated to death with stuff like Alligator (that was a fun one), Piranha and it's reamke (same as Alligator), Grizzly, Squirm, Deep Blue Sea, Great White aka Last Shark and more but nothing beats this classic.

The U.S.S. Indianapolis scene is one of the best monologues ever.
