Marvel Entertainment, LLC announced today that it has appointed Jeph Loeb as Executive Vice President, Head of Television, a newly created division of Marvel Entertainment. In this new role, Mr. Loeb will work alongside Dan Buckley, Publisher & President of the Print, Animation & Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide, Inc., to translate Marvel’s popular characters and stories to the television medium, in both live-action and animation formats. In addition to these responsibilities, Mr. Loeb will oversee the development and distribution of live-action, animated and direct-to-DVD series. Mr. Loeb was previously a Marvel-exclusive Eisner-Award-winning comic book writer and an Emmy-nominated writer for his work on NBC’s Heroes. The announcement was made today by Alan Fine, Executive Vice President, Office of the President and Chairman of Marvel Studios’ Creative Committee, and by Mr. Buckley, to whom Mr. Loeb will report.

Mr. Fine stated, “It’s with tremendous pride that I announce the creation of our Marvel Television division and the appointment of Jeph Loeb as Executive Vice President. His work in the comic book field is in a class of its own, showing his passion and talent for bringing Marvel’s finest characters to life in an innovative manner. Jeph’s work on multiple award-winning television series and popular films has shown fans worldwide his ability to deliver thrilling entertainment in a number of media. With Jeph as our EVP, fans will experience the highest quality and most exciting television projects featuring their favorite Marvel characters.”

“I couldn’t be happier to accept this new position at Marvel Entertainment, working with both Dan and Alan to deliver exciting, cutting edge television projects,” said Mr. Loeb. “Marvel continues to break new ground in storytelling in both their comic book and film ventures, so, along with everyone here, I’m excited to bring the same brand of excitement into homes across the globe.”

Mr. Loeb has written acclaimed stories featuring every major super hero in comics, including Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Daredevil, Spider-Man, the X-Men and more. Multiple-time winner of the prestigious Eisner Award for his writing, Mr. Loeb quickly established himself as one of the most sought after writers in the comic industry. Mr. Loeb also served as writer/producer on television series Smallville and Lost; writer/co-executive producer on Heroes; and writer of hit films Commando and Teen Wolf.

People can complain about his writing all they want- rightfully because almost all of his recent stuff has been terrible- but I think he might actually end up doing a decent job in this capacity.

I'm actually kind of happy with the announcement now maybe this will finally get that Moon Knight TV series off the ground.

HEROES FOR HIRE live action TV show please

Not too fond of a live action series for lesser characters in the MCU, unless we are talking about really, REALLY minor characters. I don't think you can produce a quality TV series that is on the same level of a feature film, and if you can't do that, it is not worth it. It failed with Blade and Terminator, and that's enough to put me off. If that's the only exposure characters in Heroes for Hire can get, it is not even worth it. Maybe FX or HBO/Showtime, but Marvel wants to be kid friendly so that won't work either.

Couldn't they have found someone a bit...better? It is nice that Marvel is looking at telly. It's high time something watchable came on.

Jeez, Loeb? Really? The guy blows as a writer! How in the heck do these guys fail upwards at Marvel?

Oh wait, Joe Q is running the show, that's why...

Sure, in another universe.:whatever:

For all those have been unhappy about Loeb's appointment a few things stuck out to me during his interview about his new title.

On what they're working on:

"There are some projects in animation that we're not ready to talk about, but we're going to be developing and expanding into that arena. Our hope is to bring Marvel Animation up to the quality and notoriety of the publishing and movie division. We're now part of the legacy of Disney, where animation is king, and it's our responsibility to up our game and create something that sets Marvel Animation apart from everything else that's out there. At least that's our challenge and our hope."

"And then there's a brand new division that we'll do with live action, where we're working in partnership with ABC and ABC Family to find the right properties, the right characters and develop them. To start, we will be exploring the one-hour drama field similar to the shows that I mentioned that I've worked on, like Smallvillle and Lost."
It's obvious going to take a while to greenlight a Marvel live action show as Marvel Studios is focusing on the film division, so Loeb's going to focus on the DTV market.

With Marvel getting the TV rights to Spider-Man from SONY there's obviously going to be Spider-Man animated films. Marvel going to put out a dozen of them. Marvel severed ties with it's Wolverine & The X-Men partners so I expect them to churn out dozens of DTV's with X-Men characters, but the best part of it all Marvel NOW has the TV rights to 90% of it's characters (Rumor Ghost-Rider & Daredevil are still in limbo)

Now they can do animated features like

Civil War
Secret Invasion
If the continue The Ultimate Avengers franchise can have Spider-Man in it.Marvel Zombies (couldn't do it without Spidey)
Marvel 1602
Spider-Man
X-Men Age Of Apocolypse
plus all the Spider Man stories we can't see on Disney XD (Death of Gwen Stacy)

Loeb's title just seems like the title Joey Q was given a few months ago anyway.

It's about bloody time. That's all I have to say on that.

Young Avengers on ABC Family.

It's probably nothing to do with Joey Q.

And Joey Q isn't that bad. He's the best EIC Marvel have had in years. Hell, he's the best EIC Marvel or DC have had in years.

Didio is the ****ing idiot.

Despite my reservation about Jeph Loeb, I really hope his tenure as the head of Marvel's TV division will be a successful one; as a Marvel fan it irks me to see DC having so much successful in animation and TV shows, but Marvel kept having promising series unfulfilled, or cancel shows that are successful after only a couple of seasons. I hope this is the new beginning for Marvel's foray to the TV.

This is one of the positives about the acquisition of Marvel by Disney. There's the money, connections, talent and experience to improve animation and TV for Marvel characters. They just need people in charge who either know the characters well enough to keep their essence intact, or know people who know well enough to keep their essence intact. The only negative for superheroes on live action TV is that the special effects aren't quite affordable enough at this time to truly showcase the characters.

This is very interesting....but thats all I can say right now.

This would be a great opportunity to do a Daredevil tv show. Since DD doesn't have any powers{other than his "sonar vision"}, it would be cheaper to do than something like the Hulk or Spider-man. Besides, there's already a billion courtroom dramas on tv, why not one with spandex?:hehe:
