BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - - Part 11

Geez, I'm outnumbered here. I really enjoyed the take that we got. I mentioned this in another thread, but it wasn't what I had originally wanted.

To me, the animated series got it right. Even Bryan Singer got the casting right... the land scheme is another topic, haha. This is new, but Terrio and Eisenberg knocked it out of the park to me. It's a completely new character named Lex, but I grew to like that. He doesn't mirror Bruce Wayne, he has his own unique personality and flaws.

The "God is tribal" line especially shows that there's a deeper root to his hatred of Superman that just being less popular in the public eye.

I am right there with you. I enjoyed Lex's performance. It wasn't what I expected, but I enjoyed it.
I will be watching the UE tonight... I was planning on waiting until I could get the hard copy...but I just can't wait anymore.

It rounds out what we got in the theatrical release. I liked both, but the UE really shows how smartly he was written.

Eisenberg is easily the worst part of this movie for me. There was absolutely no need to play the role in such an exaggerated fashion unless he was intended for comic relief or additional color.
I don't know why CBMs fall prey to this so much. The villain is the worst role for this kind of cheesy portrayal. How can a character be viewed as a real threat when they act like a cartoon character?
Lex's lines were good too! This very easily could have been played straight.

ASM2 Electro and Lex Luthor should make a buddy cop movie. :oldrazz:

Geoff Johns: "Lex in BvS is based off of Birthright."
Jesse: "Nails it."
Fans who have only seen the animated show: "That's the riddler!!!"

I haven't only seen the animated show. I've read the comics, too. I know that even Birthright Lex is not half as OTT as EisenLex. They can say they based their characters on a comic, but their failure to do it right is the problem. Case in point is Snyder's claim he read DKR, when he took nothing from that comic except some of the imagery and not the character material.

Hasn't Jesse said he didn't read any of the comics in preparing for this role. Which seems odd since most actors in these comic book movies do their due diligence and read the comics their character appears in. Instead, Jesse simply just interpreted the character in his mind without actually doing any research. I kind of got the impression that he felt it was below him, to read the comics.

And it's interesting that Jesse wasn't even initially considered for the role of Lex. It seems as though ZS at one time was going in another direction and then something about the Jesse sit down changed his mind. I thought the character was written really well too and I love the lengths the character goes to but the mannerisms at times that Jesse injected just didn't work for me.

None of them did. And Snyder only watched pictures.

Jessie apparently thinks he's coming back at some point, but the general consensus is that he sucked. They could easily write his character out of the DCEU by making it un-disputebly clear that he's Lex.Jr and bringing in a far superior actor as Lex.Sr.

When people saw him in the trailers, he was so out of character that many thought he was Alex Luthor.

As bad as Blax Dillion was, at least we saw scenes of him showing he was crazy. Lex was just a petulant, social ******.

Someone should make a cut of BvS that edits out every line of Lex's dialogue and replaces it with something more bearable, like maybe nails on a chalkboard.

I think he took Jon Cryer's performance as Lenny Luthor as a reference point.

The movie will still be pretty unbearable though. Unless we just rebooted the whole movie.

lol agreed.

I've got no problem with Lex. They said they wanted a mark Zuckerberg type Lex in this before the film came out and that's what they gave us. He manipulated lots of people in bvs like he does in the comics. He is someone who you want to punch in the face which makes Jessie great for this. Its not a perfect Lex but he will hopefully evolve in future films.

Haha that's a good observation, well said!

Zack said that he originally met with Jesse for the CIA Jimmy Olsen role and Zack said that Jesse was a bit detached and unemotional, which in my opinion sounds similar to how Jesse played Mark Zuckerburg. I guess Jesse decided to go the opposite of detached and unemotional.

Aside from the long red hair, I didn't get a Birthright vibe from him at all.

Agreed. It probably same thing what Snyder do with Dark Knight returns. Just look at picture of Luthor in Birthright and give him long red hair and say he based on Birthright lol.

I'm hoping this happens. I'll give Jesse credit, he came off as a semi-believable villian, something I really didn't think he had in him but it just wasn't a good interpretation of Lex Luthor and not just because it isn't the interpretation I prefer, I think most people agree now that it just wasn't good. He was miscast from Day 1. He's a good actor but even the best actors aren't meant for every part/role, he just should have never been cast as Luthor to begin with.

I know people are getting sick of the Riddler comparisons, but he really would have been a great choice for that role.

It will also give Lex Luther.Sr a more personal reason to hate Superman; after what becomes of his son.

Similar clothing, long hair and some of the mannerisms. He was a madman but in his own way. Like young Birthright Lex, EisenLex can grow up to become the colder personality. But...#snyderhasnoplan #bvsistheonlyfilminthedcu
