Kind of a weird teaser, honestly, since it was just names of stuff from King novels, whether or not it had anything to do with Castle Rock. I'm definitely interested in this, though, as long as it builds on actual stuff from his books (I couldn't get into Haven).

Stephen King Anthology From J.J. Abrams Set at Hulu

The drama will be called 'Castle Rock' and is named after the location in King's books.

Hulu is going back to Stephen King and J.J. Abrams for its next drama.

The streaming service has ordered anthology Castle Rock, named after the location featured in many of King's books.

The anthology will weave together characters and themes from those novels that use the Castle Rock location. Each season will follow a different set of character and story lines while interjecting themes and specific characters from previous seasons.

Sources tell THR that Sam Shaw (Manhattan) and Dusty Thomason are also attached to the drama, which hails from Abrams and his Warner Bros. Television-based Bad Robot banner.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS

Looks Interesting seems like Hulu is trying to up its game with this and Runaways. IDK if they had a good series to look forward to yet except maybe that time traveling one with james franco 11.22.63

Casual, Difficult people have received good buzz. The Path sounded great on paper but I lost interest and Chance with Hugh Laurie might be good but there's too much TV out there.

They've got a great looking slate compared to other services/channels for 2017/2018 that looks to make some noise.

The Handmaid's Tale
Dimension 404
Future Man
Marvel's Runaways
The Looming Tower
Dawn
Castle Rock

I'm a little confused...so it's like "Once Upon a Time" but with Stephen King characters?

Well I chose "Once Upon a Time" as an example because it has characters from various stories/books/tales that show up in the same universe. I don't recall that happening in Fargo or AHS.

King's characters exist in the same universe in the books, although this would presumably have more overlap.

How much do you know about King’s fictional town Castle Rock? Well, I did some research and found this that might be good to know with the upcoming King/Chizmar collaboration and the Hulu series.

Castle Rock is located 37 miles from Portland and 180 miles from Boston. The town’s population was 1,280 in 1959 and 1,500 in 1991. No more recent number has been found.

King wrote six books that takes place in the town. They are, in publication order: The Dead Zone (1979), Cujo (1981), The Dark Half (1989), Needful Things (1991), Bag of Bones (1998) and Lisey's Story (2006).

King has also written some short stories that takes place in Castle Rock. They are, in publication order: The Body (1982), It Grows On You (1982), Uncle Otto's Truck (1985), The Sun Dog (1990), The Man in the Black Suit (1997) and Premium Harmony (2015)

There has also been a lot of reference to Castle Rock in King’s works throughout the years. Here they are in publication order: Graveyard Shift (1978), One on One (1978), The Stand (1978), Creepshow (1982), Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (1982), Pet Sematary (1983), Gramma (1985), Mrs. Todd's Shortcut (1985), Nona (1985), The Mist (1985), It (1986), Gerald's Game (1992), The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (1999), Riding the Bullet (2000), Kingdom Hospital (2004), N. (2008), Under the Dome (2009), A Good Marriage (2010) and Dr. Sleep (2013).

There have also been numerous characters living in Castle Rock during the years and here are some that you should recognize. They may or may not show up in the new work but they will probably be referred to in some way…

10 Episode Series Order
The original series from King and Abrams, entitled Castle Rock, has scored a ten-episode series order, the streaming service announced Monday. Based on King’s short stories, Castle Rock is a psychological horror drama set in the fictional Maine town that’s often featured in his novels. Hulu calls it “a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.”

Two alums of WGN America’s Manhattan, creator Sam Shaw and executive producer Dustin Thomason, are writing the series and will serve as executive producers, along with Abrams. Production is expected to begin later this year.

Man this sounds so good. But Im still waiting for the adaptation of The Talisman.

I'm still confused but whatever, I'll still watch it.

Well I chose "Once Upon a Time" as an example because it has characters from various stories/books/tales that show up in the same universe. I don't recall that happening in Fargo or AHS.

And I chose Fargo/AHS as another example as they're billed as a limited series with new characters/cast (played by some recognizable actors) and are in a shared universe. AHS just recently started connecting their seasons and Fargo is only 2 seasons in but have connections with each other and the movie.

Hulu will definitely want some names with buzz for a one season deal
and then occasional guest appearances in future seasons.

An Update On Castle Rock

The Hollywood Reporter has an update on Castle Rock for us.

What:

Castle Rock is a 10-episode drama from writers and exec producers Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason (Manhattan). It's described as an ongoing series, though sources tell THR that it's more of an anthology that will weave together characters and themes from King's novels featuring the mysterious Castle Rock location. Each season, sources say, will follow a different set of characters and storylines while interjecting themes and specific characters from previous seasons.

Logline:

Here's how Hulu describes the series: "A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.

Production team:

Castle Rock is based on characters and situations created by King. Shaw and Thomason developed the project for television and executive produce alongside Abrams and Bad Robot Productions' Ben Stephenson and Liz Glotzer. The series is from Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Cast:

No castings have been announced yet.

When:

A premiere date/time period is unclear. Production will begin this year.

'Moonlight's' Andre Holland to Star in Hulu Anthology 'Castle Rock'

Holland will play Henry, a death row attorney with a unique and complicated history in Castle Rock, Maine.

For Holland, Castle Rock marks his latest small-screen role following the most recent season of FX anthology American Horror Story and starring opposite Clive Owen in Cinemax's The Knick. He next has a co-starring role in Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time, set to bow in March.

Nice.

At least the leading man won't give up on the show halfway through like Franco did in 11.22.63.

This whole thing is so hnnnnngh, and Sissy Spacek being in something King-related again only adds to that.

Is Jane Levy playing the young version of Sissy Spaceck's character?

Doesn't sound like it
Holland will play Henry, a death row attorney with a unique and complicated history in Castle Rock.

Oscar winner alum Spacek will play Ruth Deaver, the estranged adoptive mother of Henry (Holland). She’s a retired professor whose fading memories might hold a key to Castle Rock’s unsettling past. Levy plays Jackie, the death-obsessed self-appointed historian of Castle Rock.

So....what the hell is this show based off of? LOL

‘It’ Star Bill Skarsgård Joins Stephen King Hulu Series ‘Castle Rock’

Bill Skarsgård has been cast as a series regular in Hulu’s Stephen King series “Castle Rock,” Variety has learned.

The project marks the second King project for Skarsgård, who will star in the film adaptation of King’s classic novel, “It,” as the iconic terrorizing clown, Pennywise.

In “Castle Rock,” Skarsgård will play a young man with an unusual legal problem. He joins a cast that includes Sissy Spacek, André Holland, Jane Levy and Melanie Lynskey.

Castle Rock” is described as a psychological-horror drama set in the Stephen King multiverse that combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine, has served as the setting for many of King’s books, including “Cujo,” “The Dead Zone,” and “The Body.” The series landed a 10-episode order.
