I would be laying waste to alternate universes in the name of cinematic excellence if I really believed that's what this project is trying to sell me at this point. Ok, so they found a tasty looking chick to play Wonder Woman who isn't Jolie and they got the director of Mad Max to helm this thing, BUT I'm not feeling anything other than a painful sensation in my sphincter towards the Justice League movie. You wanna inspire me with this ****? Simple solution. Bring Alex Ross onto this movie as an art director PERIOD. It's the biggest no-brainer for comic book movies since an adventurous director named Dick Donner cast a scrawny unknown named Christopher Reeve(RIP) as the man of steel. You have a movie that's utilizing photorealistic CG characters. Why not bring in the man who paints photorealistic superhero characters better than anyone out there???? Follow that logic. Go ahead(checks watch)I'll wait.

-so sayeth the mastermind-

Alex Ross's idea of concepts involves copying someone else's.

No thanks.

Although I do like the never-used suit art he did for SPIDER-MAN. Although I don't think that was his concept, just his art.

I've been "off the grid" so to speak for almost two weeks. I'm really disappointed there isn't any casting news... what a let down.

As far as this thread is concerned, I don't know if you're advocating Ross have complete control of the look of the movie or that the producers merely use his version of the classic suits. Personally, I wouldn't want him to re-design anything.

Ross is great and I love his work but I don't think he can turn out the volume of work it takes to be art director. Yeah, even though he is not gonna do anything he still would have to have a hand in it and it would take him a long time.

Why such a Ross hater?

i like Alex Ross's work, but his costumes aren't the greatest. his costumes look like the cosplay costumes you see at conventions. he's not cut out for movies. he should stay in comics.

I don't hate Ross, I love his work, and I liked his SPIDER-MAN design. However the man's idea of designing things DC-wise is usually to take the exact same classic version of said suit and paint it. That's not costume design. I would prefer someone who could design neo-classic suits that don't look absurd when realized.

I love Alex Ross work and I think for the movie they should find a healthy medium. Ross' work has beautiful colors and has all the eccentricities in the right places. Such as Superman's S being the right size and him NOT having one on the belt, and Batman NOT rocking a suit that looks like a goodyear tire, he knows how to keep the excitement and fantasy from which these characters where born.

The only thing he does that doesn't work is that he draws the costumes as if made from cheap cosplay fabric. You can actually see the wrinkles and creases in the costumes. That's off putting. I don't want to see the Flash and Green Lantern with spaces in their suit.

Bottom Line: Alex Ross Designs with Spider-Man Movie type Fabric and adaptation.

Alex Ross is so stuck on himself!

Yeah. I didn't like how he hated Star Wars episode 3 & said those who like it the best are lying. Where the hell does he think they are lying? Because he hate it, he think everyone do but are lying they like it? Not to mention he say some of the stupidest thing.

Probably because his rendering style makes the costumes look like they would actually be cut from real existing cloth, wrinkles, seams and all, where most artists don't.

Pretty much because I don't like his style or the majority of his art.

So...this movie is going to be live-action?

Yes, it's live action. It's not cgi, it's not motion capture like Beowulf, it's live-action.

hmm... if they got him to design the outfits, fine.. but I could easily see him getting pi**y about casting choices.. I doubt he'd do it..

i understand that, but the costumes also look very homemade. they look very much like COSTUMES instead of uniforms or suits.

Dorky - you've somehow managed to sum up in three lines my exact feelings on Ross's costume depictions.

That and the fact that Superman's 'S' would be just so frikken huge it's be ridiculous.

I'd rather see BOB Ross design the JL movie costumes. :oldrazz:

In all seriousness, Alex Ross IS a fantastic painter and probably the best one in comics right now...but I don't think he's the best choice to be art director for a JL movie. Unless, of course, you want a Justice League that are all wearing black bodysuits with triangular chest areas for their insignias, or a WayneTech-financed Watchtower that looks like it was designed by George Barris.

OK, what we're gonna do now is paint a happy little tree on the crotch of the Green Lantern here....yeah, just get a little dab of green and yellow to make it stand out there...yeah.
