Jennifer Lopez Teams With ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ Writer for ‘The Godmother,’ Eyes Directorial Debut

Jennifer Lopez is teaming with STXfilms for “The Godmother,” a true-crime drama about notorious Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco. Lopez is set to star in and produce the script by “The Sopranos” and “The Wolf of Wall Street” scribe Terence Winter and “Deadwood” writer Regina Corrado. Sources close to the production say Lopez is seriously eyeing the project as her directorial debut. Based on a true story, “The Godmother” chronicles the incredible rise-and-fall of Griselda “La Madrina” Blanco, who outsmarted and hustled the men around her to rise from an impoverished childhood in Colombia to become one of the world’s biggest drug lords. Blanco was reportedly worth more than $2 billion, and was a key figurehead in Miami’s ruthless and murderous Cocaine Cowboy Wars.

I don't think I've seen any actor get as much mileage out of continuing to look good while not being particularly good at anything as Jlo.

I'm pretty sure that the riveting story of Blanco's violent life of crime will not be adequately portrayed by Jenny from the Block.

Imagine a solo movie of Jackie Weaver's matriarch in Animal Kingdom then imagine it going to waste, this is pretty much what will happen here.

We are hearing that Primetime Emmy-winning The Handmaid Tale’s director Reed Morano is in talks to helm the Jennifer Lopez feature The Godmother.

When she is no longer going to be profitable for them. She's currently STX's "secret weapon" and Hustlers pretty much saved the company for now.

Haha yeah I really regret that post now. I was never a fan of J.Lo’s acting in the past but I’m eating crow now after seeing Hustlers. She was brilliant in the film and I’d watch her in anything now.

This role of Blanco is perfect for her even though as far as Latina actresses I would have gone with either Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz or Sofia Vergara as Blanco myself

Will this lead to complaints on the feminine version reboot of the Godfather? I expect to see that happen.

Maybe they ought to adjust the title to avoid confusion and show that this will be a biopic.

I think part of the problem some actors face is they keep getting pigeonholed into roles that either aren't good or don't suit them. They kept putting J-Lo in these crappy rom-coms that Meryl Streep couldn't make watchable. To be anything more than forgettable in those types films, you have to be a really dynamic talent.

J.Lo has her strengths and Hustlers showcased them. I think she’s better at playing edgy characters than “good girl” types. Hopefully this will be another good move for her.
