However with Carter I'm very confused at the moment. If Carter simply said he could jump good cause that's whats up there would be no "confusion" but they are trying to pass off this silly idea that mars is so much smaller than earth that the dude could out do the who rotten cheating basket ball team that ironed flubber to their shoes. I say nay good sir. At least until I see the movie. Sure there's gotta be more to it.

Isn't it because of how they've evolved? Humans have evolved on a planet with stronger gravity to those on Mars. I think it makes sense enough for a fantasy film like this.

That's exactly it. Our muscles have evolved to work against earth's gravity. Since Mars's gravity is weaker than earth's gravity you would be stronger and be able to jump further on Mars.

I'm kinda sorry I brought up Superman.

Originally the Golden Age Superman had no actual powers. It was just that Krypton was a larger planet and on Earth he could jump farther and was stronger compared to Earthlings... y'know.. like John Carter is on Mars. The rest was added later.

That's what I get for being an old school fan though.

Makes sense to me. It's like in DBZ when Goku trains in high gravity to get stronger.

Well Siegel and Shuster were influenced by John Carter

I'm going to ignore the terrible trailers and see this in theaters based mostly on Stanton and my desire to see Lynn Collins sword fight in metal bikinis for two hours.

That is very obvious given the time frame.

As for the film. The fan trailers look awesome so I am so seeing this opening weekend.

I just hope it is somewhat faithful to the novel.

i didnt realize the hunger games opens march 23 yikes this movie is doomed! john carter has only 2 weeks to make a ton of cash with its 200mill budget its only tracking at 30mill opening!the hunger games will kill it! i still say this movie needed a bigger name star in the lead roll!

I hope this movie does well just to make the naysayers feel bad. :p

I'm surprised they haven't been pushing the writer/director. If feel like there should be a commercial that says "remember all of these great films that everyone in the world loves and made tons of money? The guy who did those is doing this, but with real people and crazy action sequences."

they messed up big time with trailers

should of played up romantic relationship with jc/dejah

should of showed more of woola and thars to show the more family friendly aspect

should said from director of finding nemo and wall-e

should of said based on the novel that inspired star wars and avatar

Can't say the trailers do much for me. The fan made one reminded me of Cowboys and Aliens.

It could be decent. I've seen decent movies with bad trailers before.

I've seen great trailers for horrible movies. :p

You shouldn't be. That for me is the primary appeal of seeing this movie. If not for the whole Superman-in-reverse angle the story has then I doubt I'd ever see it.

Vulcans are 3 times as strong as humans because of living in heavier gravity than earth, and then as mentioned we have Goku's gravity training in DBZ, so the idea has been kept alive in sci-fi over the years.

It's a simple enough Idea, it's just exaggerated in this concept. Mars is half the size of earth with a little less then half it's gravity meters per second squared.

It stands to reason that a human would be able to jump twice as high/far. Michael Jordan a little more. That being said fantasy movies have people doing all sorts of things these days so why complain.
