I liked when the one alien smacked John upside the head
when they found out the wedding was at the OTHER city
:woot:

well the jokes got laughs but few got the in jokes...
Edgar Rice Burroughs who created the character was his nephew in the movie...which is why at the end he tells him to take up a cause...go write a book

Was there any doubt this would be anything other than your typical generic hollywood action adventure film? I've never understood where everyone gets all their high expectations from.

One of the Pixar crew directing and having input from his partners is where it mostly came from.

And how they are some of the most entertaining books in science fiction history.

But yea, I had so many people in the theatre saying how they ripped stuff from Star Wars....any time I heard that I was like :barf:

Such a disrespect to E.R.B. :cmad:

It's funny that people say that because to me that scene where he's on the little flyer was way better than the podrace scene in Episode 1.

Didn't C. Lee tell you not to visit this thread again?

The only person who mentioned it ripping off Star Wars was quiet when I asked how a movie from 1977 ripped off a book from 1912.

Edgar Rice Burroughs in the movie was great. I wish he had a larger part.

i see that this movie had a worldwide realese. only Japan gets it in april.

so where are the reviews? where are the debates? this is not a stupid transformers movie with only action and stupid comedy. where are the deep complex debates? suprised that this movie didnt make money? hhh even SHH didnt care to see this movie. and its a scifi classic. so why should the general public?

i was entertained. so go watch John Carter.

I've seen it twice already ^_^

I am now waiting on the Bu-Ray

who had the idea that they need to erase all the clouds? Mars already looked to boring. and they made the sky even more empty? big mistake.

an example of good rigging and modeling. her character had good moments where you could see how sad she was . good job from DN

a fantastic use of greenscreen. as i said many times. its hard to shoot skylight and sun inside on sets. its best film it ouside with greenscreen. you see they build a big greenscreen behind him.you see the skyling reflected on his skin inside the shadows? its hard to do this indie with fake lights. so they used real skylight and real sun. the results are realistic. i dont think they would save any money if they filmed inside.

^Why would Mars have clouds?

I don't know if it was posted here, but here's a story Vulture broke on the trouble John Carter production. Stanton just comes off as a spoiled little d-bag here.

The Inside Story of How John Carter Was Doomed By Its First Trailer
Indeed he does. But that article is from the POV of the marketing department who are currently catching hell for this movie's performance, so it's no doubt a little biased and defensive. I would imagine the truth is somewhere in between Stanton's take and this one. Either way, both parties are responsible for this. Stanton's lack of experience making a live-action blockbuster definitely made matters worse, that much is clear.

^Why would Mars have clouds?
because they created a movie where Mars looks like Earth. aliens look like humans. because its a movie.

i never meant in my post that they never used clouds in the movie. here

i had a problem that in those shots they erased the clouds. the sky is to empty. its not interesting enough.

The Inside Story of How John Carter Was Doomed By Its First Trailer

Vulture has learned that it was in fact John Carter director Andrew Stanton — powerful enough from his Pixar hits that he could demand creative control over trailers — who commandeered the early campaign, overriding the Disney marketing execs who begged him to go in a different direction. “This is one of the worst marketing campaigns in the history of movies,” a former studio marketing chief told Vulture before the film opened. “It’s almost as if they went out of their way to not make us care.” If that was the goal, it worked.

Read that entire article and I'm glad it completely supports what I had said back in January about people prematurely rushing to completely blame Carney about this movies marketing.

As the truth comes out we now see those who are truly responsible. Stanton was an egotistical tyrant and for that he'll pay his dues in Hollywood.

my opinion. but i just can not belive that Stanton had so much control. heck i dont even belive that he had control over the final cut. just my opinion.

Worst marketing campaigns in the history of movies. You never hear that.

do i see right that this movie only had 7 tv spots? some movies have up to 20 tv spots. dear lord.

I forgot Samantha Morton was a Thark. I'm still haunted by the Sheena is a parasite music video she is in where a tentacle monster flys out of her lady parts and that wasn't even the reason MTV banned that video.

I think he was just too close to the material to understand what the Disney execs and now the general public think of the material.
