You and I had a talk about this and how outside a few weird mountain vistas and cities, Mars looked too dull.
if the whole movie would be boring there would be no problem.we would say the movie is bad and moveon. but they did create some good shots. some were the best creative shots from the last 5 years. i dont know. i dont know what to say. so much potential. so much potential for a franchise. :csad:

Just saw this again, and I am liking it more and more.

I am really not understanding the Taylor Kitsch hate anymore. Is he perfect? No, but I thought he was damn good. His only real problem was his voice seemed a little force in a few scenes.

The film really only has two problems. The overall blandness of Mars and the pacing of the middle of the film. Mars should of been red and not felt so vacant. Too many times it feels like Carter and Dejah are the only beings on the planet. Even the "live" city scenes felt false.

I am not exactly sure how they could of fixed the pacing issue without simply removing the trip that proceeds John Carter going the Force unleashed on the Tharks.

On a side note, I still have trouble telling Purefoy and West apart at times.

I'm gonna avoid all the bad reviews, and I'm gonna watch this tomorrow.

Amazing movie, I loved it. This story was definitely inspired by the Aladdin story which obviously inspired this story. Which would explain all of the Middle Eastern building designs in all the illustrations over the last 100 years.

This is one of the best films I've seen in the last 10 years. There's no story problems that I'm aware of in this film. It's a full realized believable world inside and out, it's a delight to look at. The love story is very Aladdin. Lynn Collins is worth the price of admission, she's amazing in the part and beautiful to look at. Our hero is very much like the lead character character in the Last Samurai, just a comparison. There was just the right amount of action. Why is this movie failing at the box office?

I agree. I have no idea why this film isn't doing well. I think most people being ignorant and having to be tricked into the theater by marketing is most of it. Marketing was terrible. Its the only explanation.

I'm hoping word of mouth really catches on and it gets some legs.

This felt like a classical swashbuckling movie in the style of Aladdin, but on Mars. The hero flew in ships instead of on a magic carpet. :D

The jumping from ship to ship during the aerial battle was awesome, and jumping from precipice to precipice is so damn cool. This is classic hero stuff! With him catching the heroine in mid air is so classically heroic and I love the look on her face when he saves her. God I love Lynn Collins in this role!

The trailers didn't make me want to see this movie. I went to see this movie as just an escape from reality for two hours and was totally blown away!

I'm just surprised no one at the studio told Stanton or even Stanton himself knew to shoot the 'eye catching' sequences first so they could get finished sequences/CGI done in time for a trailer, apparently that was the problem with the first trailer. They had nothing to show because it wasn't ready and that was a wasted opportunity.

So whats the reason for the later trailers? Wasn't this film shot between 2009-2010?

So whats the reason for the later trailers?

Stanton being difficult with the marketing team, he got final say on trailers and didn't like what they were doing to sell this unknown character to the masses. Stanton thought everyone would want to go see this except that there is only a niche audience or the audience is 80+ years old. This is why studios like to have control because they can point to disasters like this and point to 10 successes they had control over (and ignore the dozen of failures they had) and say "we know what we're doing."

Allegedly.

I had no problem with the teaser trailer. I was way more intrigued by that than the later ones with the more "eye catching sequences."

The fan trailers are the only trailers I even bothered showing my friends and family.

I was feeling bored so I made some 100x100 avvys for anyone that wants one.

or maybe the problem is that a lot people who watched the movie only think it was decent? you know how many posts and internet comments i read where they writte that they liked it but its nothing special? this is poison. this movie right now doesnt only have a problem with marketing. right now the biggest problem is that people dont like it enough to go back and to tell their friends that its THE movie that you need to see in march.
they need to go back and start a new promotion.
