John Hillcoat's (The Road) next movie which was in development for months last year before putting it on hold it's happening again, it's based on a upcoming novel by Matt Bondurant. John Hillcoat is still attached as a director and the script is written by Nick Cave. Shia Labeouf and Tom Hardy has been cast and the latest to join is Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life), the film is scheduled to start shooting in the spring.

Based on a true story, the narrative revolves around a moonshine gang operating in the bootlegging capital of America -- Franklin County, VA -- during Prohibition. The novel draws its roots from Bondurant's grandfather and two granduncles, who made up a fierce criminal gang at the center of the country's moonshine trade.

Surely sounds interesting, with it set during the prohibition era and has started with a good cast.

I have high hopes for this one. The Proposition was something of a masterpiece but I thought The Road was rather dissapointing. Undoubtedly Cave and Ellis will provide the score....atleast, I really hope so. That alone is reason enough for buying a ticket to see it.

This project sounds very intriguing and Tom Hardy is in this, so count me in. :yay:

I have yet to check out The Road, but I have read the book.
In the article from Hollywoodreporter about Chastain's casting it said that Nick Cave will compose the music, but there's no mention about Warren Ellis.

Nick Cave, who fronts the band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds as well side band Grinderman, adapted the novel and will compose the music. Cave worked with Hillcoat on The Proposition

This project sounds very intriguing and Tom Hardy is in this, so count me in. :yay:

Yeah it's great he's getting more prominent roles, in TDKR and in this.

EDIT:  Oh you dirty..:ninja:

Dane DeHann joins the cast.

Up and comer Dane DeHaan has joined the cast of John Hillcoat’s “The Wettest County in the World”, the actor’s reps confirmed to us. Also circling a role is Mia Wasikowska, though she is still deciding between this project and “Stoker”, set up at Fox Searchlight, and is hoping to do both.

Hardy is on board to play Forrest, the middle brother, Chastain his love interest. LaBeouf is Jack, the youngest brother and main protagonist, while DeHaan would play the role of teenage bootlegger Cricket, crippled by rickets who is Jack’s partner in crime and shenanigans. No word on what role Clarke will take, though eldest brother Howard might be a reasonable guess.

A very impressive and talented cast they manage to round up.

HAHAHAHAHA...what's up with the title?

sounds like the title to a porn flick

I like the title. It was gonna be called 'The Promised Land'.

I prefer THE WETTTESSST COUNNNTYYY! :)

Porn titles have gotten lazy as of late. They'd just call it XXX: The Wettest Country Parody or something.

BTW, it's cool that Gary Oldman is in this pic.

That means in 2012, you'll see Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy in three movies together! (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE WETTEST COUNTY, AND TINKER, TAILOR SOLIDER SPY)

It sounds great! Even with Shia in the cast...

BTW Tinker, Tailor will be released in September, 2011. But it's funny that it's their 3rd movie together in a row.

I think this could be great. I like Shia, and I can totally see him fitting in in a convincing way.

Hardy, Oldman, and Pearce all in one film makes me interested.

Shia LaBeouf on-set.

The Weinstein Company Close To Picking Up 'The Wettest County'

EXCLUSIVE: The Weinstein Company, already on a Cannes acquisition spree, has emerged as the clear frontrunner for domestic distribution rights on The Wettest County in the World, after another all-night bargaining session between Harvey Weinstein's acquisition team and CAA. I'm told a deal is very close. Considering how many distributors showed interest going into the weekend, it might seem surprising that the Wettest County in the World has taken this long. Relativity Media had been the favorite all weekend since posting the highest bid, north of $5 million. I heard they got word from the producers last night that it wasn't going to happen with them. I suspect what gave TWC the edge is its awards season experience, and a relationship that is growing between Harvey Weinstein and Megan Ellison, who financed the picture with Michael Benaroya. Ellison just sold to Weinstein world rights to the untitled Paul Thomas Anderson-directed film, which starts production next month with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix starring. I believe that The Wettest County in the World will get a platform release at year end, and open wide in early 2012.

The film will receive a platform, awards-qualifying run at the end of the year, before going wide in January or February. So you can count on that the Weinsteins are going to push this film during award season.
