So I joined Columbia Trading House to get 5 free DVDs, I suggest everyone do the same, cuz you only have to buy 2 dvds from them in the next 2 years, if you do I'll refer you, anyway... I can take care of this if I buy a box set and I get a free DVD to boot(I'm getting Fellini's 8 1/2 Criterion Edition)... Now here are the two box sets I'm eyeing...

Note: I already have Paramount's "John Wayne Collection" which has my favorite John Wayne film, True Grit and I'm also partial to the Shootist and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance as well... But this set has his 2 oscar and more noteable films....

I own the John Wayne/John Ford set, and its a really cool set.

I love these old Western and Gansta films.

Public Enemy and White Heat alone are almost worth the price of the Gangster Collection. But I'm not a very good judge. I've not seen nearly enough of the classic westerns.

Tough choice. The Searchers is one of the best movies of all time, and They Were Expendable and Stagecoach are also very great movies in their own right. I'm not a fan of the Cavalry Trilogy though. I'd say the Wayne/Ford set.

Just get both you cheapass!! :D :D

Off to College... This might well be the last DVD splurg in a while :( The Searcher box set looks so goddamn nifty (And I loved Stagecoach) but in terms of movies , I'd rather have the Gangster Collection after watching "I am a Fugitive From a ChainGang"

I have seen most of the movies in The Gangster Collection except The Public Enemy (which I want to see very badly)

Maybe my opinions can help:
White Heat is fantastic, James Cagney is brilliant. Must-see. 9/10
Angels with Dirty Faces is also excellent. Especially the last part of the movie is great. 8,5/10
Little Caesar was pretty good, not great. You gotta love Edward G Robinson though. 7/10
The Petrified Forest the same like Little Ceasar; good, not great. Bogart's small role is very good. 7/10
The Roaring Twenties is great. Highly recommended. 8,5/10
