Just came back from the final concert of John Williams: Music at the Movies at the Hollywood Bowl.
He played the love theme from Superman I, as well as the main titles. There was a big cheer from the crowd when he started them, and the Bowl lights were lit blue and red.
The most hilarious part was the family sitting next to me. The mom was trying to tell her small son that it was the Star Wars theme, and he kept on going, "No it isn't! No it isn't!" Finally, when Williams mentioned afterwards that it was Superman, the boy was like, "HAH! Five bucks!" I also saw a guy a few rows in front bow to Williams after the main titles, LOL.
Although I must say, the Star Wars fans made it a lot of fun. Williams kept on peering into the audience, and I'm guessing he saw all of the lightsabers, since he did 2 Star Wars pieces during the encore. There was a huge cheer when Imperial March started, and all of the lightsabers (there were at least 30) were lit and held up religiously.
Williams is looking quite good for his age (74?) and he was adorable at the end, even making a "go to sleep!" pose at the end of his fourth and final encore, LOL. Let's hope he'll be doing film scores for a long time to come.
