I was thinking about how they might do the origin of the Joker for this film and... many believe that Joker will be the one to scar Dent... in fact there was supposed quote from Goyer saying he would. But in the comics, Sal Maroni scarred Dent. Which is what got me thinking... could it be possible that they would make Maroni the Joker, ala Ducard as Ra's al Ghul in Begins. Just a thought.

Many people are wondering what origin they will give him... I think it's a valid point that there is a possiblity that they could take some character from the comics that has nothing to do with Joker and turn them into the Clown Prince of Crime.

and whats wrong with just having Sal Maroni as a second Villian? nobody knows who else will be in this movie, besides the joker. So i think maroni has just as good of a chance as everyone else.

You mean Sal Maroni as Joker like Jack Napier was Joker in Batman 89? if they do that then it will NOT be good and that means Nolan not using source material correctly.

Maroni as the Joker?

That would be an interesting take, but some people would complain that it's a rip-off from the Ras Al Ghul = Ducard scenerio in 'Begins'.

No to mention that Joker has already been portrayed as a top mobster (at least top henchman) gone crazy by Nicholson in Batman '89.

I think Nolan will go with something more original or closer to the distraut ex-comedian route for Jokers origin ala "the Killing Joke".

And I don't think will see Harvey get scared till the 3rd movie by the Joker's acid badge.

Not to be mean but that'd be dumb.

I don't really think Henri Ducard was Rahs all along. He just took the identity after the real Rahs (Ken Watanabe) died. Hell, all those ninjas in the League of Shadows could go under the alias "Rahs" just like a college soroity goes under the name "Jane" or "Jill."

I mean next thing you know someone will want Black Mask as Joker.

Let Joker be a struggling comedian/chemical plant worker and then turn into a deranged serial killer.

Sal Maroni deserves his own real role...IMO. I seriously think the Joker will be totally different than most people expect. For another villain I would really like to see Roman Sionis or Talia al Ghul. Im pushing more for Sionis.

I'm hoping that The Joker's origins remain a mystery with possible scenarios only hinted at. Maybe he was a mob enforcer at one point. Maybe he was nice guy who became the victim of something terrible.

Either way, I'd like to see it stay unconfirmed.

I'm with you. Not everything needs to be spelled out. They don't need to do a "boss of Axis Chemical thugs, dropped into vat" story for him. He's a nut with sinister motivations, that's enough for me. As long as they treat him seriously and don't have him dropping whoopi cushions and the like.

I'm torn between confirming an origin or leaving it 'multiple choice'. I was pissed off when Riddler confirmed TKJ in the comics but imo the film needs to establish his character more definitively. There's only so much time to portray his motivations to general audiences, and an orgin would help alot. Us comic fans already have a feel for who the Joker is we've read a million comic books.

I think Ducard was Ra's. Ducard is not in the comics right? If not, then he could be hiding his identity.

Actually, Ducard is straight from the comics.

Ducard is infact one called Henri Ducard right from the pages of Batman comics. been awhile since I last saw him though, but if I remember right he was some kind of British detective that trained Bruce Wayne a little. or was he French? I cant recall, but I do know that his resemblance to Liam in BB, especially in the jail scenes at the beginning were rather uncanny.

They merged Ducard and Ra's in BB the way they merged Joker and Joe Chill back in 89. Character merging is very common in movies and other adaptations.
