Joker 'JOKER: FOLIE À DEUX' (Phillips and Phoenix return for the sequel) General News & Discussion Thread

The more I think about the musical aspect, the less sense it makes to me. The musical numbers really didn't do anything for the plot or the characters, they're generally just random karaoke performances that happen consistently while the movie is put on pause, except for 2 or 3 numbers that are genuinely important. Weird.
Remember it's not a musical. Todd Phillips kept warning everyone. :o

I always said this movie was doomed after finding out they were giving Joaquin’s Joker a girlfriend. In what world does this cater to the audience that got the first film to a billion dollars

David Zaslav is a hack programmer of reality cable tv garbage, he has no idea what he’s doing. Mike De Luca also spent the last few years making a bunch of expensive flops like this at MGM, his days have to be numbered.

The only discourse I'll accept on this movie.

The movie was doomed once they decided to make it a musical. That's it.

Seriously, it pissed money away getting Gaga and all the music rights. Literally paying heaps of money just to add musical stuff that makes less people want to watch the film. Drastically less.

That logical reasoning makes me laugh considerably less, so I’m gonna stick with incels being mad that even Arthur Fleck is somehow less of a loser than they are

I didn't know incels were that rich.

Also, I’m quite perplexed on why they decided to hype up Joaquin’s singing ability when those portions of the film were by far the most brutal to get through

Like I let out a few audible groans when that stuff kept starting up. I think our pal Todd got just a tad bit too high on his own self worth this time around, just go make Old School 2 and stay in your lane, buddy.

The rise and fall here is almost staggering. But to be honest my interest in this movie evaporated months ago, so it also kinda doesn't surprise me.

just an all-around weird situation.

To those who hate the ending, did you read spoilers of it or actually watched the movie?

To me the movie didn't get interesting thematically until it got to the end and explained what this version of the Joker really is.
