Heath Ledger's haunting Joker has been voted as the second greatest movie character of all time behind Indiana Jones, in a new poll.
Out today in Empire Magazine, the list of the top 100 characters sees Darth Vader, Captain Jack Sparrow and Hannibal Lecter round out the top five.
Empire Editor Rod Yates said it was no surprise that Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, took the top spot, but said the late Ledger's Joker in the Dark Knight was also impressive.
More than 80 per cent who voted for the Joker chose Ledger's interpretation over Jack Nicholson's, the magazine said,
It defining moment was: "Ledger's Joker taunting Batman in the interrogation room - You're just a freak like me".
"A fitting tribute to a much-missed actor," Yates said.

The special edition of Empire out today features all the 100 characters on the cover.

Darth Vader should easily be number one.

Sweet, my childhood hero is number 1 and my adulthood hero is number 2.

EDIT: Lebowski is a better character then Superman haha.

I've been looking for an image of the special edition cover that comes out tomorrow, but I haven't found one yet.

Don Vito Corleone behind...Spiderman?

Love Joker up so high..

BUT. Indiana Jones #1? and some of the characters ahead of Batman..

:brucebat:

I was a bit iffy on Indiana Jones, but now that I thought about it. The character of Indiana Jones is what defines a movie character pretty much. He is the ultimate action/adventure hero. Despite the recent installment in the series being a letdown.

Indiana Jones in Raiders is a great character, no doubt about it.

I wonder how that list would change if they polled people who have had sex?

I don't get how Indiana is number one. He is a cool character and all but Number 1? I have to disagree.

Yeah, the Indy from Raiders should be Top 5...I choose to ignore Crystal Skull. *shudders*
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Ridiculous

...And how does Zoolander even end up on this list?!

Ok as much as i love Jack Sparrow, there's no way he should rank better than Hannibal Lecter and the Corleone men imo.

For me (and for now :cwink:), the top 10 rank something like this:
1. Indy
2. Hannibal Lecter
3. Darth Vader
4. Michael Corleone
5. Dirty Harry
6. Atticus Finch
7. Vito Corleone
8. Obi-Wan Kenobi
9. The Joker (Heath's of course)
10. Han Solo

I gotta laugh at some of the names on that list though: Vivian Ward from Pretty Woman... really? Zoolander? :hehe:

Ridiculous. People always vote for the last thing they remember.

No reverend Harry Powell. This list is indeed bogus.

Patrick Bateman and Beetlejuice should be higher up.

Don Vito Corleone behind...Spiderman?

Yeah, seriously? There's no way he shouldn't be anywhere past the top 5. I'd also venture to guess that Travis Bickle should be a tad higher (like oh....I don't know, 20 spots or so)
