Supergirl Jon Cryer is Lex Luthor

Lord, how old do you people think Brenda Strong is?

Brenda Strong is 56....

Young Kal-El appears in season 1
Superman shows up in season 2

Young Lex Luthor appears in season 2
...

Hmmm...

And if Lena was supposed to be 4-years-old in that flashback, then Lex seemed to be about 12-ish, so I'd say he's supposed to be pushing 40 in this show (despite Brenda Strong being on the young side to have a kid that old). What about Travis Fimmel? He had quite a presence on Vikings, plus he has those menacing blue eyes that the other Luthors on this show have, lol.

EDIT: Scratch that, the flashback said "20 years ago," so Lena's only 24??? So Kara's supposed to be older than her? Thaaaaat's a stretch, show. But ok. That would mean we're looking for a Lex in his early 30's.

When the show first started Kara was 24, so that would make Kara and Lena about the same age.

If Lex is in his 30s that would make sense because Clark is mid 30's and they were boyhood friends if we accept Supergirl is sort of a continuation of Smallville.
I say that because Lionel and Lillian only existed on Smallville, were both created for Smallville and had never existed in the comic books.

Also, its not like Lena had to build Lexcorp from scratch by the age of 24. She "merely" has to be smart enough to take over and keep the company successful after her big brother's spectacular flameout.

From what was said in this episode it sort of sounds like Lex might be dead. First Lillian telling Lena they are the last Luthors. Then later on at the stash house Lena asking it they had a part of Lex on ice.
I thought at the start of the season it was said Lex was in prison. Lena was even gloating about Lex's failed plan to kill her. So I guess if Lex is dead, it sort of takes away the need to cast someone to play
him, unless he just shows up in some sort of flashback. And I'm not sure why the show even needs that. It's more a Superman story and doesn't really affect Supergirl.

Yes, at the start of the season Lex was definitely in prison. Lena had a line about him "currently serving 6 consecutive life sentences" or something to that effect. I think Lena facetiously asking about having a piece of Lex on ice was only because he was in jail and therefore otherwise unavailable, but she wasn't serious anyway. And Lillian's line about being the last Luthors was probably just because she hadn't been tried or convicted yet (and knew she was getting out soon), so they were the only two Luthors still "in the world" so to speak. I do believe Lex is still supposed to be alive.

And for the record, I have no problem conceptually with Lena being 24. It's just physically, she looks, sounds and seems noticeably older than Kara to me. I mean, no offense to Katie McGrath who of course looks great, and even though she's in her 30's I could certainly buy her as maybe a 29-ish Lena, but 24? Not so much. But at the end of the day, that's a minor quibble that easy to overlook.

My Choice would be Val Kilmer.

I don't really want Lex showing up without Superman in all honesty. Unless it's a small role where Lena visits him in prison or something. I really would love them to do a prequel about him and Supes (I just can't let go of a potential mini series).

Val Kilmer doesn't look like that anymore.... :(

This is Val Kilmer today

He looks old enough to be Lillian Luthor's father rather than her son.

Katie McGrath being upped to series regular next season has to up the odds of seeing a grown-up Lex at some point.

I'd go with Henry Cavill's Tudors and Katie McGrath's Dracula costar John Ryes Meyers , if they're going for a Lex on the younger End.

Meh, the fewer Superman extras the better. James/Jimmy hasn't turned out too great. :(

For the record, Jimmy Olsen cannot compare as a character to Lex Luthor. Ever, lol. No matter how differently you try to dress him up.

As takes on these characters have gone, James seems like the outlier to me, so I'm not really buying into that as a reason to avoid Lex. It just seems like a Chekov's gun to me at this point. Pretty much every appearance made by Lena has featured a Lex name-drop, we've seen Lex in flashbacks, we've gotten Superman himself... I think at some point, they need to give us a taste.

I don't think I was comparing them didn't mean to. It's just that the one big character from Superman sucks so it doesn't leave me much room to get excited about any others .

Why?
